"A delightful car that combines driving pleasure with open-air flair for summer outings. It is in well-maintained condition with few owners who have ensured that it still retains its original freshness. Everything appears to work well."

Description

Sold new in Germany, Munich, on September 29, 1994. Just under two years and 40,000 km later, on October 29, 1996, it was registered for road use in Sweden. Here it has had two previous owners, for just over 11 and just over 7 years respectively, before the current owner took over in November 2015. This car has been cherished by its owners. The odometer now reads 155,840 km, which means just under 6,000 km with the current owner, but he has also had a number of other classic BMWs to care for and drive. The convertible has only been driven on fine sunny days; in between, it has mostly rested in the garage. The current owner, who has worked at Scania, has carried out simpler service tasks himself. The most recent thorough service was in 2023, but it received new spark plugs and filters this past summer, as well as a freshly recharged AC. Removable tow hitch.
The car comes with an owner's manual and service booklet, partially filled in. Two keys. Original wheels are included, fitted with older summer tires.
Inspected and ready to drive.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Starts easily and the engine runs smoothly and eagerly. During a short test drive, everything including steering, gearbox, road handling, and brakes appeared to work well.

Not checked on a lift, but what could be seen looked good. No remarks at inspections.

  • Interior condition

Fine and well-maintained original interior with normal mild wear relative to age and mileage. The steering wheel, controls, dashboard, and gauges are in the same condition. All electrics and the alarm appear to work well. The AC has been recharged. Newer Sony radio and sound system with remote control. The convertible top function works well but may require a bit of technique. Nice trunk with original tools. The spare wheel is untouched and comes with a fun accessory, a custom-fitted spare fuel can.

  • Exterior condition

A Calypso Red metallic paint finish that has received a full or partial repaint at some point, though it is uncertain why and when. The paint is in fine condition with mild patina from use, a few stone chips, door edge marks, and scuffs. Fine accessory wheels and good tires. Glass, trim, emblems, etc., as well as lighting details are in fine condition considering the age and mileage. The soft top is in good usable condition and is watertight, but shows mild wear from use.

  • General condition

At just over 30 years of age, this excellent model from Munich is now to be regarded as a classic and enthusiast's car. Its condition is both well-maintained and user-friendly for upcoming seasons of meets and events, or why not simply a drive on a mild summer evening through beautiful scenery and fine roads.

Facts about the model

When BMW got its business and results back on track during the '60s and '70s with the Neue Klasse and the lively 02 cars, it was time to shift up yet another notch ahead of the '80s. It was still West Germany that mattered, and the watchword was quality. The German premium and sports car manufacturers became the benchmark for an entire world, and BMW belonged at the top; their 3 Series has now been produced by the German automaker since 1975 and is in its seventh generation. Generation three of the BMW 3 Series was called E36 and was produced 1990 - 2000. They were equipped with four- or six-cylinder inline engines and had double overhead camshafts. They were fine driving machines and road cars. The body styles were five-, four-, and three-door as well as two-door coupe and convertible. The latter attracted attention when, in the summer of 1985, a fully open car was launched again in the predecessor E30. It became a hit, and the story continued in subsequent generations. The E36 model was considered even better than its predecessor and was presented in a timeless '90s design. As usual, watchwords such as rear-wheel drive and driving pleasure, now with a stiffer body and even better weight distribution, along with a driver-oriented interior environment.
A total of 209,357 examples of the E36 convertible were produced 1992 - 1999.
