"With this anniversary model, Harley-Davidson celebrated 100 years as a manufacturer. Two careful and enthusiastic owners have kept it in excellent condition over the years, and today the bike is in impeccable, well-maintained original condition with a few authentic upgrades."

Description

This bike was first registered to its original owner on 12 April 2003, sold new by Cycle Center. The current owner—a car and motorcycle enthusiast with, among other achievements, ten Gotland Grand National appearances—acquired it from Probike on 24 May 2012 as a 50th birthday present to himself. He has carefully maintained and serviced the bike over the years, covering approximately 1,500 miles.

It has received several upgrades, including a switch to Progressive Suspension with adjustable rear shocks. The camshafts have been replaced, along with SS509 rocker chambers, a new cam plate with hydraulic chain tensioners (see photo), and cam bearings. A new oil pump has also been installed. The seat has been replaced with a leather Saddlemen (the original seat in good condition is included). V and H Propipe with “decibel killer” and a new front tire.

The bike comes with the original owner’s manual with completed service section, two keys, and a Dynojet TC88B test showing engine condition, balance, and power. Newly inspected on 23 April this year with no remarks and ready to ride.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Starts easily and ran smoothly and steadily in both engine and drivetrain. During a short ride on a small road, everything functioned as it should. The underside of the bike in the garage was dry, and everything looked and felt well cared for.

  • Interior condition:

Seat in like-new condition, along with nice handlebars, instrument housing, and other controls for riding and handling. Everything functions as it should, including the alarm (keys and code included). Well-maintained and special saddlebags with Deuce embossing.

  • Exterior condition:

Very nice, glossy original paintwork and well-polished, fine chrome details. Excellent wheels and good tires—original at the rear and replaced at the front. Emblems and lighting details are equally well-preserved and in original condition.

  • General condition:

A wonderful and impressive Harley-Davidson anniversary bike with an advanced Twin-Cam engine. The Softail, with its slightly slimmer and longer design, provides excellent comfort. Its specifications, condition, and history make this motorcycle a fine classic and an interesting collector’s vehicle.

Facts about the model

Harley-Davidson was founded in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1903 by William Harley and the Davidson brothers. The company quickly gained momentum, achieving both sales and racing success. During World War I, after the U.S. entered in 1917, they sold over 20,000 motorcycles to the military. By the early 1920s, Harley-Davidson was the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturer, with sales in over 60 countries. In 1921, they introduced the V-Twin engine of 1,212.6 cc and the iconic “teardrop” fuel tank.

The company survived the Great Depression of the 1930s, and during World War II, they produced over 90,000 motorcycles for military use. When Japanese motorcycles entered the market in the late 1960s and aggressively expanded through the 1970s, competing with traditional manufacturers, Harley-Davidson was bought by AMF, which led to declines in both sales and quality. In the 1980s, a group of executives bought back the company, restructured operations, improved quality and marketing, and revived the brand.

By the turn of the millennium, Harley-Davidson was strong again and, in 2003, offered special 100th-anniversary models with unique Vivid Black and Sterling Silver paint and extra chrome to celebrate the centenary. The Softail Deuce 1400 version featured a 1,450 cc (88 cubic inch) V-Twin Cam engine, fuel injection, and five-speed transmission. The Deuce was considered the top-of-the-line among Softail versions.
