SAAB 99 Turbo 1985cc — 1979

Here's a fantastic opportunity to acquire one of the rare 1,506 1979 Saab 99 Turbo models ever produced. It has undergone renovation and is fully drivable, though it needs a few minor finishing touches to achieve 100% completion.

"The current owner had the chance to acquire this car after a family member passed away and embarked on a project to rebuild it. During a test drive, the car performed well, and the owner even drove it for 100 km to our depot. The only notable issues are the speedometer occasionally reading inaccurately over 80 kph and a non-functional wiper washer. It has recently undergone an inspection, and the certification is valid until July 31, 2025. Additionally, the engine bay remains clean and dry."

Description

This car was initially purchased in 1994 by a family member who embarked on a comprehensive renovation project. The car was stripped down to its components, and the entire process included a full engine and gearbox rebuild. However, the renovation took a considerable amount of time and was essentially completed after the engine, gearbox, and bodywork were restored. It sat idle in the garage for many years until the previous owner passed away, and the new owner took charge of the project, continuing the complete rebuild.

Today, the car is in a good and usable condition, with numerous additional improvements made. However, there are still a few cosmetic fixes required for it to be in perfect condition, such as:

Headliner needs to be refitted or replaced.
Trims around the wheel arches are included but need installation.
Saab Turbo badges and identity markings need to be fitted and are included.
The boot lacks carpets.
There's no aerial.
The driver-side window trim/seal and inner door trim need installation and are included.
Rubber bumpers are complete but have some damage around the corners.
Alloy wheels would benefit from renovation.

These are primarily cosmetic issues that can be addressed with some knowledge and effort. Once these fixes are completed, you'll have an excellent car that not only offers great value for your investment but is also likely to appreciate in value over time.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The test drive was a pleasant experience, with no significant issues to report. The car starts easily, drives well, and features smooth gear shifts and responsive brakes. Its road handling is stable, and the turbo delivers a strong boost. The only noteworthy items that need attention are likely the speedometer cable and the washer wiper. Everything else under the bonnet appears to be in good and dry condition. The tires are in good shape, though the alloy wheels have some scuffs.

  • Interior condition:

Indeed, the 1970s-style green exterior and interior exude a unique charm, and it's impressive how well the interior has been maintained. The seats are complete and largely undamaged, except for the center material on the driver's seat, as shown in the picture. The carpets are in good condition, albeit with slight sun bleaching, and the door cards are in good shape. The dashboard is free from cracks and features clear and functional instrumentation. However, the headliner requires either a proper refitting or replacement to fully restore the interior.

  • Exterior condition:

The body underwent a comprehensive renovation a few years ago, and it still retains its straight form without any rust concerns. The panel gaps are generally good, though some minor adjustments may be needed around the doors and bonnet. The underbody is clean and well-maintained, as shown in the pictures. The paintwork boasts a vibrant finish, with only three small paint chips present around the wing's edge near the boot. There are also paint chips on the wing mirrors and the side front wing frame.

  • General condition:

This presents a fantastic opportunity to acquire a Saab 99 Turbo at a favorable price. Addressing the mentioned issues over the upcoming winter will undoubtedly result in having a superb car ready for the next season.
