"Opening the door and sitting behind the steering wheel, you're instantly transported back to 1998, yet it still feels like you're in a new car. It’s fully loaded with modern electrical features, all of which work perfectly, except for the AC, which likely needs a recharge. There are no warning lights. The engine runs smoothly, the gearshift is precise, and the car offers excellent road handling and good brakes. In 2021, the car underwent a major service, including a cambelt change, and it is inspected until 2025-07-31, ready to drive home."

Description

The first owner from Borås purchased the car new in 1998 for 256,000 SEK, with the original invoice included. Factory options included the large SC805 audio package, alarm, and AC. It’s hard to imagine that the original owner ever thought this car would become a popular youngtimer classic. The first owner drove the car approximately 25,000 km before selling it in 2013. Since then, it has been owned and cared for by Volvo enthusiasts, with a total of 6 owners since new. The car comes with a wealth of older documentation and receipts, with mileage verified through previous inspection reports. The only points to mention are that the service book isn’t stamped, and the original alloy wheels are not included.

The sedan model S90 and the estate model V90 were launched in 1996 (for the 1997 model year) as newly renamed versions of the Volvo 960 sedan and estate. Volvo enthusiasts consider it the best rear-wheel drive Volvo ever produced. The S90 is a true luxury car, featuring a 3.0-liter straight-six engine with 24 valves. It also boasts an upgraded rear axle suspension, improved interior materials, upholstery, and insulation. The redesign introduced more integrated lights, bumpers, door handles, and moldings, giving the car a sleek and refined appearance.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car runs and drives perfectly, with no issues or remarks. Everything electrically functions as it should, including the windows, mirrors, heated seats, and radio. The AC likely needs recharging, as it’s not working. The engine bay still looks like new and untouched, and the spare wheel and toolkit are in the boot. The car is fitted with non-standard alloy wheels in nice condition, with good tires, but no winter tires. It has never been driven in the winter.

  • Interior condition:

The entire interior looks and feels like new, with no damage whatsoever—probably the best interior I've seen on an S90. The only minor note is that there are small creases around the wooden trim on the driver and rear passenger door panels (see pictures).

  • Exterior condition:

Bodywork is best described as virtually perfect, with no damage, straight panels, and no rust. The paintwork is almost undamaged, with two small exceptions: a 3 cm spot on the bonnet and some small chips on the rear right passenger side wheel arch (see pictures). The underbody is exceptionally clean, with no rust issues and looking great. The only remark is that one jacking point has caused a small dent in the panel (see picture).

  • General condition:

A wonderful car in every aspect, and already becoming a sought-after youngtimer in the world of Volvo collectors. Low-mileage examples like this are hard to find these days.
