Description
The car was manufactured and registered in Sweden in 1959. Mr Lycke acquired it on 20 November 1996 from a previous owner who had possessed the car since 26 March 1964. The odometer currently shows 38,372 km, while at the 2004 inspection, it recorded 36,680 km.
Mr Ask saw the car shortly after Mr Lycke purchased it in 1996 and recalls it being in very good, unrestored original condition with low wear. This is also confirmed by Per Sjölund in Nyköping, who was involved in the purchase. Based on this information, the total mileage is estimated to be approximately 138,000 km.
In summary, the car has a few small tasks remaining to complete the renovation, mainly related to interior trim and the previously mentioned engine work. It should take no more than a few weeks to finish, and additional parts are included. The color change and re-trimmed interior are a matter of personal taste, though most Mercedes enthusiasts would prefer it completely black and original. Either way, it remains in a very presentable and attractive condition.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
At inspection, the car was missing the water pump and radiator hoses, and the fuel pump was non-functional. However, the engine could be briefly started using starting fluid. The brake servo pipe was also missing, though the engine bay was otherwise in fair condition.
The engine requires reassembly and completion with the missing parts, followed by a comprehensive mechanical overhaul. The braking system will also need a thorough review and replacement of missing components due to the car’s long period of inactivity. -
Interior condition
The seats, cushions, and door panels have been reupholstered in light beige leather in recent years. The wooden door frames are not currently fitted but are included separately. The glove compartment lid is made of Bakelite instead of wood, and a few other small interior details are missing. The fabric sunroof is original, showing typical age-related discoloration and minor cracks around the edges. The floor mats are partly original and partly replacements.
-
Exterior condition
Originally black, the car has since been repainted red, except for the roof, which retains its original black paintwork is in good condition, and no rust damage was observed on the body. The car was not fully inspected underneath, but a small rust area was found between the rear bumper cover plate and its mounting reinforcement. The bumpers and other chrome trim are in good condition, though the right headlamp is incomplete. The sunroof headliner and roof is worn in places "see pictures".
-
General condition
A lot of major work has already been completed, and the car can be easily finished with a bit of time and knowledge. With its very reasonable market value, there’s clear upside potential once completed.
