Description
The car has had a total of 11 registered users. The previous owner purchased it in 1996 and spent almost 29 years undertaking an extensive renovation. The car was stripped down to bare metal and repainted, with the paintwork believed to have been completed within the past few years. The renovation progressed gradually over the years as time and funds allowed.
Sadly, the previous owner passed away before completing the project. The current owner, who knew the previous owner personally, subsequently purchased the car from the estate.
The current owner and his brother are both knowledgeable Volvo enthusiasts and decided to invest in a completely rebuilt and upgraded drivetrain. Considerable time and money have gone into the mechanical work, transforming the project into an exciting performance-oriented Volvo 244 Turbo.

Overall Assessment
A tremendous amount of time, effort and money has already been invested in this Volvo 244 Turbo. The extensively rebuilt B230 engine, upgraded turbo system, reinforced clutch and BMW six-speed gearbox provide an excellent foundation for a powerful and enjoyable classic Volvo.
The bodywork has undergone an extensive restoration, including stripping to bare metal and repainting, while the mechanical upgrades have been carried out with performance and reliability in mind.
Although the project still requires final assembly, wiring and commissioning, much of the expensive work has already been completed.
With its Swedish-sold history, extensive older documentation and a huge selection of new and used parts included, this represents an exciting opportunity for a Volvo enthusiast to complete the renovation. The only real reason for selling is the current owner's lack of time and space to complete the project.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
The engine and gearbox are mounted in the car but have not yet been tested. The project still requires the installation of various auxiliary components, cooling system, brakes and other mechanical parts, along with completion of the electrical wiring. A MaxxECU engine management system is fitted but not yet fully connected.
The suspension and running gear are already in place, allowing the car to be easily rolled and moved around. A huge selection of spare parts is included, far too many to list individually, providing an excellent starting point for completing the renovation. Please note that a large van and trailer will be required to collect the car and the extensive quantity of spare parts included in the sale. -
Interior condition
The interior has been extensively renovated, with the seats reupholstered in red leather and matching door cards retrimmed. Considerable work has already been completed, with the headlining, carpets, dashboard and other interior components fitted. Some finishing work remains, including door catches, gauges, instrumentation and electrical connections. Numerous original interior parts are included, along with a new windscreen ready for installation.
-
Exterior condition
The bodywork has undergone an extensive renovation, and looking around the car, the work appears to have been carried out to a good standard. Very little welding appears to have been necessary, with well-fitting body panels and no noticeable rust issues. The body is exceptionally solid throughout.
The paintwork has also been completed to a good standard, although there are some minor blemishes, including glue residue and tape marks. The boot area has a few imperfections in the undercoat. Most of these should be possible to address with polishing and some careful wet sanding, along with a few final finishing touches.
Numerous new rubber seals and trim pieces have already been fitted, while the bumpers and glasswork are in good condition. Overall, a very solid and well-presented body with much of the expensive renovation work already completed. -
General condition
A fantastic opportunity for a Volvo enthusiast with the time and knowledge to complete this exciting project. With reportedly just over 400 examples remaining registered in Sweden, the 244 Turbo is becoming increasingly rare, particularly Swedish-sold examples, as many were originally exported to the US market.
