"This collection includes many "folkhojar" – reliable, Swedish-built motorcycles whose pricing made them affordable even for low-wage workers. Preserving these for the future is an act of cultural stewardship. We hope to see more 1950s motorcycles at summer vehicle meets in the years to come. The Monark in question should be possible to get running by relatively simple means. We do not know exactly what needs to be addressed before attempting a start."

Description

The motorcycle has been part of a collection of vehicles in Sorsele. The late car collector Mr. Hedman was a recognized and knowledgeable motor man and passionate enthusiast who restored everything from motorcycles and tractors to cars. He worked as a caretaker for Sorsele municipality for nearly 40 years and became a well-known motoring figure in the area. Bilweb Auctions has now been entrusted with selling the collection on behalf of the estate. Several of the vehicles are placed on jack stands to prevent the tires from being damaged during long-term storage. The vehicles could therefore not be brought out for the photo session, and in some cases it has not been possible to document the vehicles from all angles. Expect the vehicles to need servicing and inspection to varying degrees.

We do not know much about this Monark 150 cc motorcycle. It lacks a registration certificate and carries the old license plate with the county number AC 11578. The only clue is a notation on the license plate; below the number there is an older handwritten note with the owner's name Paul Hälleberg and the model CZ 150 cc. The buyer will have to do further research through the Swedish National Archives (Riksarkivet) to find out whether, with the help of these clues, the old county number and the notation on the plate, a copy of the old registration certificate can be obtained. The motorcycle is therefore sold unregistered without identity documents.
This is a distance auction. The photos were taken by an independent photographer, and information about the vehicle and its technical condition, to the extent such information was available, has been obtained from the estate administrator. BWA has therefore not inspected the vehicle on site at the seller's location.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Equipped with a 150 cc two-stroke engine producing 6 hp from the Czechoslovak manufacturer CZ. We do not know when the engine was last started. No attempts to start it were made at the time of photography. It will need a service and general inspection first.

  • Exterior condition

Everything suggests that the motorcycle has never been repainted. There is some touch-up paint, including on the headlight housing. The paint shows natural wear and normal patina from use. The tires have significant dry rot. The rear section of the mufflers appears to be missing. Please study the photos carefully for more information about the condition.

  • General condition

Unrestored Monark 150 cc in original condition with charming patina.

Facts about the model

In the early 1950s, Monark was Sweden's largest motorcycle manufacturer. The focus was now on putting the Swedish people on wheels with light, reliable, and affordable two-strokes. CZ stands for ?eská zbrojovka, meaning the Czech Arms Factory, which was one of Czechoslovakia's largest and most renowned mechanical industries.
After the Second World War, it was difficult for Swedish manufacturers to source engines quickly enough to meet the enormous demand. Monark therefore purchased complete, reliable 150 cc two-stroke engines from CZ to install in their own Swedish-built frames.
