"Older restoration that has held up well. Dignified, elegant, and presentable."

Description

The first known owner of this BMW, according to the current owner’s family, was Helmut Leicht from Ulm, Germany. At that time, the car bore the German registration number UL-CR 85. According to what the family has been told, Mr. Leicht drove the car all the way to Sweden, but unfortunately, it broke down during the journey. That incident led him to sell the car here in Sweden.

The next owner was Björn from Norrtälje, who purchased the car and imported it into Sweden on June 22, 1965 — a fact still documented today. When the current owner, Holger, found the car, it was stored away in a barn in Roslagsbro. Since then, the car has remained in the family’s possession, and over the years it has become one of their most cherished vehicles.

During the 1970s, Holger carried out a thorough restoration of the car. Although the renovation was completed early on, it took quite some time before he began using it regularly, as he owned several other vintage cars that also required his attention. It wasn’t until 1997, when the car was re-registered and inspected, that it returned to the roads. After that, he actively participated in vintage car rallies and gatherings.

When Holger bought the car, it had a green color, but during the restoration it was repainted red – a shade that would become something of the car’s trademark. Despite the many years that have passed, the family still remembers how well-kept it was: the bodywork was solid, the engine in good condition, and it always received the care it deserved.

Since its arrival in Sweden, the BMW has been stored in a heated garage, and the family continues to drive it a few times each summer. The car was also featured in a report in Nostalgia magazine, issue no. 12/2009, where it received a fine write-up.

Included with the car is a binder of documentation as well as some spare parts, as shown in the photos.

Facts about the model

The BMW 315 was produced between 1934 and 1937 in nearly 10,000 units, most of them with closed bodies. In 1934, it was offered in several different versions, with the two-door limousine being the best seller. The four-seater cabriolet was rare, but the two-seater Sport Cabriolet was even rarer. Only 20 examples of the two-seater Sport Cabriolet were built, and the one being auctioned here is one of them.

The wheelbase measures just 2.4 meters, and the car weighs a little over 800 kilograms. The grille clearly reveals it’s a BMW, even though the “kidneys” extended the full height in those days. The narrow, period-correct 16-inch tires are fitted with 5.00/5.20 rubber. With a top speed of 115 km/h, it’s more than enough to make things exciting.
