Condition
-
Mechanical condition
Starts easily and runs smoothly in both engine and drivetrain. A test drive at a slower pace on minor country roads was calm and trouble-free. Steering, clutch, and gear shifting likewise. Both brakes and handbrake work well. The Volvo feeling is immediate. Not checked on a lift, but the vital parts looked good and it received praise from the vehicle inspection. The car has not been used much in recent years, so a thorough inspection and service might be recommended.
-
Interior condition
The overall impression is very good. Both the chairs and rear seat, door panels, carpets, and headliner are in fine original condition. It has had a form-fitting cover on it for 30 years. Gently removed on the passenger seat cushion which looked very nice. Steering wheel, controls, instruments, radio, heating, and ventilation, etc. appear to be functioning well.
-
Exterior condition
It appears to be the original paint which is still in good condition. The left front fender seems to have been repainted, probably many years ago. Wheel arch edges are in good condition, there's a hint of rust at the rocker panels. The trunk lid is in good condition, but the gas springs need replacing. There is a small dent on the right rear pillar. Glass, chrome, trimmings, and rubber are all in good condition. The trim on the driver's door has come loose at the front and back edges, held on with a bit of tape. Engine and luggage compartments are in good condition. The rims are of turbine type in good condition, with a broken hub cap and worn bolts. Original rims with studded winter tires are included.

General condition
This is a fine representative of Volvo and its era. Approaching forty years old, it has aged gracefully, proving that the saying holds true: Volvo's value endures. Over the years, many Volvo models have become collector's items. Initially, special editions and high-performance models attract enthusiasts. Eventually, even the workhorses—the ones that got the job done and were once a common sight on the roads but have now suddenly vanished and are missed—become valued. These are the cars that most people associate with memories. When such a vehicle is in this condition, it becomes a true classic and a piece of motoring and cultural history.

Facts about the model
Over the years, numerous variants and updates were made. When the new 740 model was introduced in 1984, many may have thought that the "old" 240 model had reached its end, but Volvo shifted gears and continued to develop the 240 series.
Over time, different engines were introduced, including petrol, diesel, and turbocharged versions. It was produced with two, four, and five-door body styles. There were various trim levels, offering sportiness and luxury, but perhaps the most genuine representation remained the DL/GL models—a staple of the Swedish family lifestyle.
Initially, the GL model was slightly more upscale but was eventually downgraded to the entry-level version. From 1981, it was equipped with the B23A engine.
There were hotter cars on the market, but few could match the combination of simplicity, durability, quality, and safety of the Volvo 240—a grounded family car. For the 1988 model year, the GL variant became the entry-level model and now included a catalytic converter. In total, over 2.8 million units of the 240 model were produced, and even today, 30 years since production ended, we still see them on the roads regularly.
