Volkswagen Golf MK1 1.5 — 1975

An incredible survivor, this is the first model year of the Golf here in an exceptionally fine original condition. The car has only had one user and has never undergone rust repair or repainting. It has just 80,000 kilometers on the odometer and is probably one of the finest original cars in Europe.

"The car is a real time capsule that has stood the test of time brilliantly; this is how it looked when it left the showroom nearly 50 years ago."

Description

This Golf was delivered by Atteviks to Ingeborg Nilsson, who worked at the police department in Jönköping. She took excellent care of her beloved car, always keeping it in a garage. The car was only taken out and driven in good weather, which explains its superb condition.

In 1994, she sold it to a close friend, who intended to gift it to his son, though this never materialized, and the car was taken off the road in 1995 and was not used thereafter.

In 2016, the car was purchased by its current owner, a dedicated VW enthusiast with an exclusive collection of VW cars. He had the car serviced and underwent a thorough reconditioning. While under the previous owner's care, a ladder had fallen and caused a minor dent on the lower part of the left rear fender, which has since been professionally repaired, with an invisible touch-up.

Facts about the model

In the early 1970s, the Volkswagen Beetle was outdated and needed replacement by a new commercial success. The Volkswagen Golf became a much-anticipated hit and is currently in its seventh generation. The first generation ceased production in Europe in 1984, but in South Africa, production of the Golf Type 1 continued all the way until 2009 under the name Volkswagen City Golf.
