SAAB 9-3 Griffin 1.9 TTiD SportCombi Vector — 2012

One of the last new Saabs sold, today it is a used family car, a future classic in a normally used and well-maintained nice condition with good documentation and just one owner.

"The knowledge that the auction car represents the end of the brand makes one think a bit more, and the whole driving experience takes on a different kind of light, a kind of reverence."

Description

It was delivered new to its current owner in June 2012 by ANA in Trollhättan, as one of the final 17 Saabs officially produced and sold under the Saab brand. As such, it was essentially a classic right from the start but has nonetheless led a calm family life for 12 years and 147,470 kilometers. Of course, it can continue to serve as a family car, even though its historical automotive significance remains. The most recent approved inspection was carried out on 2024-09-12.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The twin-turbo engine starts reliably, has a distinct diesel character, the transmission feels as it should, and so do the brakes. The glow plug lamp warns for rear fog lights. Good documentation with all manuals intact and the service book filled in with the correct intervals. The latest service was done in March at 146,200 kilometers.

  • Interior condition:

Nice leather interior in Griffin version with some wear on the driver's seat cushion. Otherwise, door panels, headliner, cargo area, steering wheel and controls are fresh and nice. The climate control blows both hot and cold effectively. Loose original rubber mats are included.

  • Exterior condition:

Attractive white paint with normal wear for the mileage. The rims are from a 9-5 NG whose owner thought that 19 inches were too bumpy. The Pirelli tires are from 2017 and the winter tires from 2011 are mounted on original 17-inch rims.

  • General condition:

A good and genuine overall impression, and a new owner will decide where in the borderland between a utility vehicle and an enthusiast car this vehicle should be, but a general fine-tuning followed by enthusiast usage during the summer half seems like a reasonable existence.

Facts about the model

On February 23, 2011, during "Independence Day," the Saab 9-3 Griffin was introduced. It replaced the previous Saab 9-3 models with the design versions Linear and Vector, available across the SportSedan, SportCombi, Cabriolet, and 9-3X ranges. These "Griffin cars" were offered in two versions: Standard and Aero. Later that year, Saab's end came on December 11, 2011, when Victor Müller filed for bankruptcy at Vänersborg District Court. By then, however, the production line had already been idle since early June 2011.
