Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
The engine starts easily, though the choke cable sticks slightly and would benefit from adjustment. Once warmed up, it runs smoothly and maintains good oil pressure. It was lightly test-driven around a car park and performed well — the gearbox shifts properly, and the brakes feel solid. A routine service and minor review are recommended, but otherwise the car is ready to go and is inspection exempt. The temperature gauge has been partially removed and needs refitting; another instrument cluster is included in the boot for spare parts. The car sits on good wheels fitted with older tires that are dry and cracked and should be replaced before regular driving.
-
Interior condition
interior features partially original textile upholstery. The front seats have been reupholstered in a different fabric, which now shows slight wear and a small area of damage on the upper edge of the rear seat, mainly caused by sun exposure. The door cards and headliner are complete and in good condition, with only a few minor marks. The rubber door sill mats are worn. As mentioned, the temperature gauge needs to be refitted in the instrument panel. Overall, the interior is in good condition considering the car’s 66-year age.
-
Exterior condition
The body is in fair condition with no major rust issues. There are some typical signs of older surface rust where the upper front section of the rear wings meets the roof, which has been touched up. The bodywork is straight, and the underbody is clean and tidy, showing a few older signs of welding in places. The paintwork appears largely original, although the right-hand side was repainted some years ago; this area now shows minor blistering and is finished to an average standard. The bumpers and other chrome details remain in good condition. The Mercedes front badge is currently not fitted, but three spare badges are included, allowing the next owner to choose which one to install.
-
General condition
This car comes with a wonderful history and has been kept in good running condition for many years. Its a good car for its next owner. A simple service and a few minor interior jobs are recommended, while the cosmetic details are not urgent and can easily be addressed over time. It’s a car to enjoy just as it is for many years to come.
