Facts about the model
Externally, it differed from its predecessor in several ways. For example, the upper part of the body was redesigned with larger windows, improving visibility by 18 percent. The updated appearance also featured a new grille and larger headlights in a different position. The car’s interior was also revised, including an improved instrument layout. With the Mk II came disc brakes on all four wheels, which became the new standard.
A total of 83,976 cars of the Mark II series were produced, of which 28,663 had the 3.4L engine. After 1967, the 2.4 and 3.4-liter Mk II were renamed 240 and 340 before the brand-new XJ model was introduced.
There was also a Daimler version produced from 1962 to 1969, fitted with a 2.5 L V8 producing 144 hp. It featured, among other things, the distinctive Daimler grille. A total of 17,620 examples of this version were built.
