Description

The owner’s family purchased the car new in London in 1972. It was delivered directly to Wood and Pickett for modification and repainting. The modifications were made according to Swiss specifications so that the car could be registered in Canada and Switzerland, where the family lived at the time. The car was later brought back to Sweden as part of their household goods in 1978. It has remained in the same family’s ownership to this day.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Everything feels solid and functional in this car. The engine sounds nice and has been serviced and maintained annually despite the short distances driven. The automatic transmission shifts as it should, and the instruments and other technical equipment are in order. The car is somewhat hard to start because it hasn't been driven much recently. The car would benefit from a light startup service and some fresh gasoline.

  • Interior condition:

Beautiful interior that largely appears untouched. Lovely nougat color on the leather as well as a well-polished and shiny dashboard. Black headlining that looks nice. A wind deflector is installed. This is raised after the roof has been retracted. All these interior options were included in the Wood and Pickett package that was installed when the car was new.

  • Exterior condition:

No direct damages have been found on the car. There is some rust in the form of minor surface rust spots in several places. A paint bubble on top of each front fender near the windshield has also been detected. The exterior of the car would benefit from a proper polishing. This would further enhance the overall impression.

  • General condition:

Good overall impression overall. There are minor things to improve externally. Internally, only light reconditioning is needed.

Facts about the model

The service Wood and Pickett offered to its wealthy clients was a stroke of genius. It undoubtedly paved the way for the modern level of customization offered by Mini cars today. The timing couldn’t have been better, as many TV celebrities and Hollywood stars often had a W and P-modified Mini in their garage.

The 1973 oil crisis created an emotional barrier for anyone considering the purchase of expensive, fuel-inefficient vehicles. Where could these buyers turn to showcase their wealth while still appearing environmentally conscious? The answer was Wood and Pickett. The Mini was a chic, popular, and cool car, and Wood and Pickett offered colors based on the customer’s imagination. Some of the results were relatively surreal.
