Description

Volvo TR704 was manufactured from 1935 to 1937.
In 1972, the current Volvo was saved from being scrapped by a vintage car enthusiast. He worked as a tanker truck driver for OK. Along the oil truck's route was a farm where the Volvo had long been used as a playhouse for children. The driver took over the well-worn vintage car, which was already a very unusual vehicle at the time. Somehow, word of this exciting find reached all the way to Volvo in Belgium. The vintage car owner received letters from the Belgian Volvo importer for two consecutive years expressing their desire to purchase the car. You can see the pictures of the accompanying letters. The owner attended vintage markets in search of parts for the car, including 4 extra doors for it. Unfortunately, there was never time to begin the restoration. The late owner's estate is now selling the Volvo. The car still has its old county registration number and will need to undergo an originality inspection and registration inspection when the restoration is complete.
According to information from Volvo's historical archive, the car was completed at the factory on Hisingen in Gothenburg on June 18, 1936. It was then ready to be shipped to the Umeå district, according to the factory's records.
According to the accompanying inspection document (see picture), the Volvo was registered with the county number AC3363 on June 29, 1936. In 1941, the car was converted to run on producer gas and registered as a producer gas vehicle.
We have not researched the car's history between 1942 and 1972. It will be an exciting challenge for the future owner.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine in this model was a straight-six side-valve engine with a displacement of 3.7 liters, producing 84 horsepower. The gearbox had 3 gears and was operated using a floor lever. The original engine is no longer present. A loose engine is included, reportedly used as a stationary power source for an emergency generator at a hospital. The gearbox and driveshaft are original and still installed in the car. The condition of both the engine and transmission is unknown.

  • Interior condition:

The interior needs a complete renovation. The seat frames are still in the car. Gauges for the dashboard are available separately. Please refer to the pictures for details.

  • Exterior condition:

The so-called pegamoid roof (exterior roof made of a type of artificial leather) is missing, and only the wooden slats remain. The body of these cars was constructed with a wooden frame covered with sheet metal on the outside. The wooden frame is in need of restoration. The outer sheet metal shows varying degrees of surface rust with holes in some of the fenders. The left running board is missing. Four additional doors in better condition are included separately. Please carefully examine the pictures of the body. Extra parts such as the front window frame, wheels, and grille for the radiator are included.

  • General condition:

A restoration project car that requires a complete overhaul to regain its former glory.
