"A practical Volvo 240 without frills."

This Volvo has been owned by the same family since new and was purchased from Jan Ericson Bil AB in Norrtälje. The family was farmers and primarily used the car for shopping and running errands outside the farm, but otherwise, it mostly stayed in the garage. The car has low mileage of just 68 140 km on the odometer. They have replaced the rear control arms, refurbished the brakes, and replaced both rear brake calipers. The car also received a new battery approximately 3 years ago. Included with the car are nice used studded winter tires of an older model. The car has been regularly serviced as per the service booklet that comes with it. This is a well-cared-for Volvo, and it has always been stored indoors when not in use.

Facts about the model

The most sold car model in Sweden. Starting in 1983, Volvo decided to drop the old model designations 242, 244, and 245 – from now on, they were all called 240. In 1984, all variants with fuel injection engines – GLT, GLE, and Turbo – received a new front with a raised hood and a black grille. At the same time, all models got position lights on the front fenders. For the 1985 model year, all models received redesigned engines to reduce internal friction. The lower friction improved fuel consumption and cold start performance. The engines had a new cast iron block and aluminum cylinder heads. Volvo 240, which had its roots in the 140 series, was introduced in 1974. Over the years, it underwent several changes, and when the successor 740 was introduced in 1984, many probably thought that the 240 would disappear. However, it would not be discontinued until 1993. In the beginning, gasoline cars had either the old B20 or the newer B21 engine, later only B19, B21, or B23 (up to 1984), and then only the larger engine, which was now renamed B230. Manual transmissions were initially M40 (4-speed) and M41 (4-speed with overdrive) for the first year, but were replaced by M45 and M46 the following year. From the 1983 model year, M47 (5-speed) was introduced on the GL. Automatic transmissions were available as an option and were, in the 1975 and 1976 models, a 3-speed Borg-Warner BW35, replaced in 1977 by a Borg-Warner BW55, also 3-speed. Starting in the 1980 model year, a more modern 4-speed Aisin-Warner AW71 was introduced on the GLE and GLT, and the following year, it was also available on the Turbo. However, it became standard on all models from the 1985 model year.
