Description

This very rare engine is a Citroen B15 Six G with engine number 2601, the first engine has number 1834, so this should be number 767 in sequence, and it was built in the first production year of 1939. Some test engines were built in 1938. The first mass-produced cars were built in 1939, approximately 2,300 units. Probably only about 30 units were produced in 1940 due to the war. In 1946, 202 units were manufactured, and in 1947, 49 units of the G-type. The first engine of the G-type was also designed for the upcoming HY truck. Since it was to have a rear-mounted engine opposite to the Traction Avant cars, the rotation direction of the G engines was reversed, and a larger gearbox was designed. The engine package was installed in the upcoming B15 when the tests of the V8 car B22 were completed. The engine did not fit in the HY car, so it had to settle for a B11 engine. This meant that the few early B15 cars had a reversed rotation direction, which was not popular among car owners who suddenly had to turn the starter crank in the wrong direction. After the war, the engine was reversed to the correct direction, and a new gearbox had to be manufactured because the G-engine did not fit with the rotation direction. It is not possible to combine a G engine with a D gearbox and vice versa, but it is possible to install a complete G engine in a post-war car if the gearbox is in place. This engine package is extremely rare and sought after. The entire unit comes from a car that was scrapped in Stockholm in the early 1960s because it did not pass the state vehicle inspection. The engine does not turn, and a piece of a cover is missing. It probably hasn't turned many revolutions considering the downtime during the war. We know nothing about the condition of either the engine or the gearbox, but finding another one for renovation is probably nearly impossible according to Citroen experts.
