Description

This bus was built in Brazil and is believed to be from the last production year of the "Split V" model. It was imported to Sweden in 2019 and has seen little use since. It has likely never been exposed to salted roads.

The vehicle has not been lifted by us, but from what we can see, the underside appears to be in good condition. However, the inspection report notes rust in one of the suspension struts. The inspection was conducted in January 2025, but the vehicle failed. None of the noted issues have been addressed since.

The odometer reading of 39,650 km cannot be guaranteed, as the meter has likely rolled over.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine runs smoothly, but there is some grinding noise in the gearbox, which may potentially be resolved with a clutch adjustment. All other technical functions are in working order.

  • Interior condition:

Likely a newly upholstered interior that could benefit from some care and detailing. All seats and panels are intact, but there is wear on the driver's side floor mat.

  • Exterior condition:

Repainted during its lifetime in a blue metallic finish. It is unclear whether this was an original color in Brazil.

The bumpers have been repainted and show minor scuff marks. There is a decimeter-long scratch on the right rear fender. Trim, windows, and lighting fixtures are in good usable condition.

  • General condition:

A great overall impression of this "Volkswagen Bus." There are some issues to address, but as far as we can assess, none appear to be costly.

Owner's comment

Reducing the car collection and selling this charming bus model.

Facts about the model

In 1949, the prototype for the Volkswagen Type 2 was approved for production at Volkswagen’s factory in Wolfsburg.

By 1954, it became increasingly difficult to produce more vehicles at the Wolfsburg plant, and Volkswagen needed a new facility to manufacture VW buses. By 1955, the first bus rolled out of Volkswagen’s new factory in Hannover, and a year later, production of buses in Wolfsburg ceased.

VW buses were also produced in Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, and Australia. Production in Brazil began in 1969, where the classic T2 generation continued to be manufactured even after it was replaced by the new T3 generation in Germany, Austria, and South Africa in 1979. Some updates were made to the Brazil-produced models, including the introduction of water-cooled engines.

On December 20, 2013, the very last classic VW bus (T2) was produced in Brazil. This final example is now on display at the VW Museum in Hannover, Germany.
