"This fine Daimler model breathes English luxury and elegance. There is quite a bit to do to bring it into good condition, but fundamentally it feels like a fairly solid restoration project."

Description

This car was imported to Sweden in 1991. Unfortunately, there is no history from its time in the USA, but it has likely been driven on dry, well-kept roads considering the limited rust present. It has been repainted with mixed results. This may have been done in the USA or by the previous owner at the time of import; this remains uncertain.

The current owner has driven it on shorter trips in his local area, often with a happy son in the passenger seat.

To bring the car into really fine condition, a full restoration is required. The car has not been driven for the past five years, and therefore no start-up attempts were made at the time of inspection. Oils, filters, fresh fuel, and a new battery should be replaced. According to the owner, the car ran very well during the time he used it. From what we can see, the engine turns over as it should.

The car has not been inspected on a lift, but what can be seen underneath appears sound. However, the exhaust system shows rust damage and there is a fair amount of surface rust. One key for the ignition and only limited documentation are included.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

As previously described, the engine was not started at the time of inspection. This means we cannot guarantee the functionality of various systems in the car. The owner recalls that there was some noise when shifting, but that the gears engaged as they should and that the kick-down function worked satisfactorily. The brakes are seized, particularly on one of the rear wheels. Lubrication and refurbishment will be required.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is in a worn, patinated condition. The leather upholstery has its flaws, but in our opinion it should be possible to restore for a professional leather specialist.

The carpet is dirty but intact, and the headliner is also dirty and has come loose slightly at the rear near the window. The door panels fit somewhat poorly, and the door seals should be replaced. The dashboard is in nice, good usable condition.

  • Exterior condition:

Various areas of paint loss, bubbling, and scratches in the paintwork. Rust damage behind the right rear wheel. Chrome in good, usable condition. The window trims are cracked and dried out, but uninstalled trims for the rear window are included. The right side mirror glass is cracked, while the other glass surfaces are in good condition. Older tires with good tread are mounted on rusty steel wheels.

  • General condition:

This car gives a good first impression, but on closer inspection there are quite a few things that could be improved. The possibilities are definitely there for the handy enthusiast.
