"Newly inspected and ready to be enjoyed."

Description

The current owner went with a friend to look at a Motorbike collection in Uppland and spotted a pair of red BMW K1s. He told the owner of the collection that he had been looking for one for a long time. The owner offered to sell one of these as he had two. He took the plunge and became the owner of this cool BMW. He used the bike a little off and on in the beginning but now it is mostly stationary.
This potent machine is in very good condition.

Facts about the model

In the early 1980s, BMW had to update its motorcycle program. Both for fuel-technical reasons and for purely market reasons. The old proven boxer engine needed to be replaced with a more modern machine. They also needed to compete with the Japanese manufacturers for younger motorcyclists. The engine became a new design. The prototype was based on a Peugeot car engine. The new engine was first placed in the K100, which was a touring model from BMW. Since there was a rule in Germany that engines could not have more than 75 kW (about 100 hp), they had to work with aerodynamics to keep up with the Japanese. The result was the K1, which was revolutionary from BMW's point of view. To emphasize its sportiness, they chose to paint them red or blue with yellow speed-enhancing stripes.

A prototype was shown at the Cologne Motor Show in 1984. It was so well received that four years later at the same place, they could present the new production model.
During its production years from 1988 to 1993, only 6,921 units were produced. How many are left in this fine original condition is a legitimate question to ask.
