"The right scooter for, for example, an entry into a vintage scooter scene. Deviating from the original in color is a matter of taste; a good and reliable mechanical condition is more important."

Description

It was delivered new in June 1965 to its first owner. For the past thirty-plus years, the scooter has remained loyal to Östergötland, possibly even since it was new, with a total of 5 owners. However, an individual from Östergötland did in 2011 submit it to EM Scooters in Gothenburg for a total engine overhaul with lots of new parts. An endeavor that cost just over 14,000 SEK, roughly a significant portion of what the scooter was actually worth at the time, 13 years ago. At the same time, they did a very good job, because today the bike is reliable, easy to start, and user-friendly for daily use. And a functioning vintage Vespa in presentable condition is sought after. For the 1963 model year, the model received a trapezoidal-shaped headlight and a distinctive fold on the side covers and on the front fender. The latest approved and thus the last inspection was carried out on 2021-08-13.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine started on the first kick at the time of documentation, even though it had been sitting for a few months. The engine overhaul done in 2011 looks like they built a new engine in a used block. The list of parts and work is included among the pictures. An extra tank comes with it, which was deemed unusable during the engine overhaul, probably due to rust on the inside and a faulty fuel tap.

  • Interior condition:

The driver's seat has some worn seams and cracks but holds together. Otherwise, good rubber details, trims, and handles. Black rubber trims around the side covers instead of the original gray.

  • Exterior condition:

When the model was first introduced and up until the last model years of the GL 150, the color was metallic blue, and from 1963, the export colors to Sweden were the solid hues Biancospino and Como blue. This example has been repainted at some point in metallic wine red over the original white color. This is visible on worn spots with small damages and in the glove compartment. There's a small, older - and classic for the model - rust damage under the floor in the reinforcement ribs.

  • General condition:

A sensible scooter with a patinated and garage-painted exterior, but also with really good mechanical quality.

Facts about the model

Pleasant and well-known model, the 150 GL Touring was a bestseller in Sweden between 1959-1964. It was the first manually shifted sheet metal scooter model from Piaggio which, in English – and in most classic scooter circles today – is referred to as "Largeframe". "The others are called "Smallframe" and "Wideframe". Wideframe are the models before 1959 except for the model GS150, where the largeframe model GS160 takes over as the model year 1962. Smallframe, as the name suggests, are smaller scooters and pure mopeds ranging between 50 cc and 125 cc.
