"Fun and road-ready VW bus that makes hotel stays unnecessary."

Description

This charming and cheerful fire-red VW bus has truly seen the world. Before it came into the hands of its current owner, it was used by a family who cruised around Europe in it during the summer months. With its pop-top bed and fold-out sofa, the bus comfortably sleeps both children and adults, making it the perfect vehicle for family adventures.

When the current owner acquired it, the bus had been resting for a few years and a full restoration was planned, inside and out. It became a true family project—four family members, supported by relatives and friends, welded, filled, sanded, painted, built, and polished. Before long, the bus—with its gleaming red paint, newly upholstered beige seats, fully functional kitchenette, period-style curtains, and surfboard rack—was ready for new adventures.

In 2019, it rumbled down to France’s west coast, taking in the beauty of Normandy and the vineyards of Bordeaux before spending extended time on the beaches of Biarritz. This bus is ideal for those looking to embark on a real surf adventure or European road trip, just as much as for exploring the Swedish countryside.

The engine was rebuilt in 2017 with new bearings, pistons, cylinders, valves, valve guides, starter motor, and clutch. The body and interior also received attention, including replacement of the inner and outer sills on both sides, removal and rust treatment of the elevated roof, followed by a full respray inside and out.

A custom-built camper interior was installed, featuring storage cabinets, shelves, new upholstery on seats, sofa, and door panels. The bus is also fitted with a new gas stove, fridge (12V, 230V, and gas), 12V 100W solar panel, a 12V-to-230V 400-watt inverter, new stereo, various window seals, a new windshield, and fully rewired living space electrics.

It’s equipped with a fuel heater, dual batteries, and the braking system has been renovated. The vehicle rides on reinforced C-rated tires for camper use. Included with the bus are an awning, roof rack, chairs, and table (see photos).

Facts about the model

The VW T1 bus was introduced in the 1950s and remained in its original form until 1967. In 1968, the next generation arrived—the T2—representing a modernization of the classic T1, featuring a slightly more powerful engine and a more rounded front with a full-width windshield (the so-called “bay window”). This model was produced until 1981, when it was succeeded by the T3.

In the U.S., a luxury version of the T2 was offered, featuring upgraded interior trim, more opening windows, chrome accents, and two-tone paintwork.
