"A car in good basic condition that, with relatively simple means, should be able to be improved to an even better state."

Description

This particular car is the first model year of Volvo’s 140 series, which was produced until 1974 when it was equipped with larger bumpers adapted for the American market. There were no major changes during its lifetime, but towards the end, the 140 series received some updates that were carried over into the new 240 series, which was introduced as the 1975 model year.

We do not know much about this car’s history, except that it has been in Dalarna for at least the last 15 years, probably even longer, as it was reportedly sold to a man in Grängesberg whose son later took over the car. The 144 has been well taken care of over the years and is in a condition that, with relatively little effort, could be further enhanced due to its solid foundation.

It does not appear to have been modified, as it features dual SU carburetors, as it should on the Sport model’s engine, the correct interior, chrome push-button door handles, and a four-speed gearbox with overdrive. It is also equipped with a period-appropriate radio and a gasoline heater.

Facts about the model

Volvo’s 140 Series was produced from 1966 to 1974, with over 1.2 million units made, making it one of the great automotive successes in Sweden. The series included two-door, four-door, and five-door (station wagon) models. From the 1969 model year, the more luxurious Volvo 164 was also produced, exclusively as a four-door model, featuring a six-cylinder engine.

Initially, the four-door 144 model was manufactured. In the summer of 1967, for the 1968 model year, the two-door 142 version was introduced, followed by the five-door 145 station wagon in November of the same year.
