Porsche 911 T 2,4 — 1971

Exciting and black-and-white history, meaning a police history. Trendily modified at the time and later refined and fixed with a lean towards original performance from the brand.

"In a time when 1980s modified 911s are being restored to original, this example has found its place as a usable and unpretentious RSR replica."

Description

As one of 13 Porsches delivered to the National Police Board in 1971, this 911 was assigned to the Gothenburg police district. They drove it until 1972, when it began to be used more operationally against miscreants and speeders, based in Halmstad. It was in service there until 1975 when the National Police Board sold their Porsches to private individuals. The first owners after the police were from north of Gothenburg, from Alvhem and Kungälv. The car likely then ended up with someone in Gothenburg who initiated the modification. This was not an uncommon fate for many early Porsches at that time. The car made a brief trip to Östergötland before returning to Gothenburg, and then to the current owner from Barsebäck. He has created a nice binder with a lot of information and documentation. An even more detailed history can be compiled with the help of the National Archives if a new owner wishes to do some research and fill in the gaps in the ownership history. The latest and thus the last approved inspection was done on April 21, 2022.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Familiar to anyone who has ever driven an older Porsche, it has a solid and well-built feel—despite the car’s age. At some point, the original 2.2-liter engine was replaced with a later 2.4-liter engine. The well-tuned engine and the later installed five-speed gearbox with the classic charming dogleg pattern (1st gear towards-you-down) have that usual vintage Porsche feel, meaning the driver needs to be active and aware. The car has been serviced by Rolf “Myggan” Nilsson and optimized on a rolling road by Jonas Pölda.

  • Interior condition:

Elegant new Italian Recaro replica seats in leather with a sporty yet restrained tone. Fresh new mat set along with a nice original headliner and a classic Momo Prototipo sport steering wheel. Additionally, the current owner has recently accentuated the car’s rally-racing character with two vintage Heuer stopwatches on the dashboard.

  • Exterior condition:

Widened and painted red in the 1980s with fiberglass fenders front and rear. With the widened body, the small rear wing, 9” wheels at the front and 11” at the rear, it is a nice vintage Porsche racer nod to the 1970s 911 RSR, as indicated on the rear wing. The chrome details, including mirrors, headlight rims, and front grille, are new.

  • General condition:

Fun and a bit mischievously user-friendly in a dignified and stylish condition, the owner has preserved a modified 1970s model in a pleasant and tasteful manner.
