Description
This T3 has had 14 registered owners since new. The current owner purchased it in 2019 and carried out a minor mechanical overhaul at that time. The starter motor was replaced, the clutch hydraulics were rebuilt, the valves were adjusted, the heater boxes were replaced, etc. Please see the photos of receipts and notes for details. After two camping seasons in 2019–2020, the bus was stored in a garage due to relocation and other interests. It has now been brought back out, given a light service inspection, and the decision has been made to sell it. It appears to have been garage-kept by most of its owners throughout the years, judging by its remarkably well-preserved condition. They simply do not look like this after 44 years if they have been stored outdoors.
The vehicle comes with a spare wheel mounted underneath the vehicle, as well as the original owner’s manual. Two sets of keys are included.

Condition
-
Mechanical condition
Powered by a 2.0-liter air-cooled flat-four engine with twin carburetors producing 70 horsepower. Four-speed manual transmission with rear-wheel drive. Recently recommissioned with the help of a local workshop, which serviced the bus and drained the fuel tank of old gasoline. A new starter battery was also installed. The engine starts easily and performed well during a short test drive around the yard. It may be taken for an inspection during the course of the auction. (We will update the listing continuously with information regarding the inspection.)
The camping equipment, including the refrigerator, gas system, etc., has not been tested by us. -
Interior condition
Very well kept interior. Exceptionally well preserved, one could say. We have not had the opportunity to test the camping equipment, but visually everything appeared complete and in excellent condition. The front seats feature a clever swivel function, allowing them to rotate backwards or sideways.
The camper is equipped with two 12-volt batteries. The starter battery is brand new, while the leisure battery has not been tested and may need replacement. -
Exterior condition
As far as we can tell, the paint appears to be original. It has withstood the test of time remarkably well. There are minor imperfections in the form of paint blemishes and some surface rust in the seams. A few stone chips on the front panel have also developed light surface rust. Please refer to the photos for more information. Considering the model type and age, we regard the condition as very good.
We have not found any damage to the fiberglass high-top roof. The visible parts of the underside, inspected without lifting the vehicle, also appeared to be in good condition. -
General condition
A well-preserved nostalgic camper that has stood the test of time remarkably well. There are a few cosmetic imperfections, but nothing major. Overall, it presents very well.

Facts about the model
The undeniable bestseller of this era was the Joker, built in several variants based on the VW T3 and arguably one of the most successful panel van conversions of all time. In addition to the “standard” Joker, offered in versions I through IV, the Sport Joker was introduced in 1983, featuring a style reminiscent of the later Multivan. There were also other variants like the Club Van and the Club Joker, the latter equipped with four individual seats. In August 1979, a sales brochure proudly declared: “From Volkswagen and Westfalia: The Joker – Fun Without Limits.” The base price for a Joker in 1979 with a 2.0-liter engine was 27,466 Deutsche Marks. On September 27, 1984, Westfalia celebrated the production of its 250,000th motorhome in Rheda-Wiedenbrück – a Joker based on the VW Transporter, equipped with a 78-horsepower water-cooled boxer engine.
