Description
Curt, the father, later had the scooter repainted in its original color and replaced the rubber trim along the side panels. He most likely serviced the engine at some point as well—it starts easily today and runs well.
An older set of crash bars and a luggage rack are included—an appreciated accessory then, as now, for that authentic period look.
The most recent inspection was carried out on April 12, 2017. When the new vehicle inspection rules came into effect on April 20, 2018, the scooter was still within its valid inspection period, and it has since been exempt from further inspections.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
Starts easily, with a good feel in both clutch and gear shifts. However, a minor adjustment of the gear cables would improve engagement of first gear. The rubber around the ignition components and the choke lever is dry and cracked, and the kickstarter rubber is missing.
Spare parts for these classic two-wheelers are generally easy to source. -
Interior condition
Nice original grips and a reupholstered seat. It’s sometimes claimed that the seat should be grey or dark blue, but according to available information, all GS160s sold in Sweden came with a black seat and grey piping.
-
Exterior condition
Attractive paintwork in the original color, with a couple of runs on the front fender that could be wet-sanded and polished to achieve a smooth, glossy finish.
The frame number is slightly covered by paint but can easily be revealed with light sanding if needed.
For the originality enthusiast, replacing the side panel rubber trim with grey versions might be of interest—perhaps even fitting a seat with contrasting piping. That said, swapping saddles and trim for different styles has long been more the rule than the exception in the scooter scene, both back then and today. -
General condition
A charming overall impression and condition—a GS160 ready to be enjoyed as it is, with only minor tweaks to make when time and interest allow. Or not at all. The rich history and thorough documentation are an important part of the package for those who value such details.

This included Mods revivals, punks, and skinheads—united by strong musical influences ranging from 1960s Motown soul to punk, ska, reggae, and the synth music of the 1980s.
