Description
The automatic transmission shifts very smoothly and nicely. It's not easy these days to find an automatic Saab with such low mileage.
There is some minor rust, but nothing serious as far as we can tell. The underside has not been inspected, but the latest inspection report shows no issues with structural components.

Condition
-
Mechanical condition
The engine and transmission feel very solid, and the car drives beautifully on the road. We were pleasantly surprised by the smooth and gentle gear changes. There may be a minor leak in the exhaust system, as it sounds slightly louder than usual, but there were no remarks noted during inspection.
Brakes and other technical systems are functioning satisfactorily. The car is equipped with both engine and cabin heaters. -
Interior condition
The interior is in good condition. There’s a small stain on the driver’s seat that will likely come out with cleaning. A light upholstery cleaning is recommended. No sagging headliner—everything is clean and tidy. All panels are in good condition.
-
Exterior condition
The car may have been partially resprayed. There is some rust along the lower edges of the doors, as shown in the photos. One rust issue is present in the spare wheel well at the rear, which will need attention over time. A chrome trim piece on the rear bumper is missing. There is also a small damage near the driver’s door lock, caused by an attempted break-in at some point in the past.
-
General condition
A great overall impression from this low-mileage car. With a bit of care, there’s every opportunity to bring it into excellent condition.

Facts about the model
In 1986, the 900 lineup was expanded with the launch of a convertible version, manufactured in Uusikaupunki, Finland. The open-top model became a major sales success, especially in the crucial U.S. market. For a convertible, it was exceptionally well-insulated and comfortable, setting a new trend and becoming popular as a year-round vehicle. The front end and bumpers were redesigned for the 1987 model year. The Saab 900 remains one of Saab’s most iconic models.
The first-generation Saab 900 was available as a sedan (2-door from 1984 and 4-door from 1981), hatchback (3- or 5-door), and convertible (2-door, from 1986 onward). It came with various engine options, all being 2.0-liter inline-four petrol engines, with differences in fuel systems (carburetor/fuel injection/turbo).
Additionally, a 20 cm extended version of the 4-door sedan, called the 900 CD, was produced from 1981 to 1986. Besides the increased space, this version featured a more luxurious interior and was available only with a turbo engine. Only around 500 units of the 900 CD were produced.
In the model update of autumn 1991, the 900 series gained standard ABS brakes, central locking, and a center armrest (on the 900i). The 2.1i 16 (140 hp DIN) engine was also available in Sweden for the 1992 model year.
