"An English-built P1800 is the dream of many Volvo enthusiasts. This is a fine example in just the right condition. Lavishly spent on and renovated to be kept, but now for sale. It’s ready to drive, just turn the key and go. Could it get any better?"

Description

The owner acquired the car in 2015 in a dismantled and partially renovated condition. Over 7 years, the car underwent renovation and is now inspected without any remarks. Original parts were used wherever possible, or they were renovated if needed, supplemented with new parts when necessary. The car is in very fine condition and has been driven 187 Swedish miles since the renovation, which is also the current mileage as the odometer was reset during the renovation. The total mileage since the car was new is unknown. The aim during the renovation was to stay as close to the original specification as possible. The owner is a big car enthusiast, and this P1800 has been meticulously renovated for himself. He now intends to reduce his collection, hence letting the car pass on to the next Volvo enthusiast. A spare wheel is included.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The Volvo B18 engine has been overhauled and equipped with an original sports camshaft and dual SU carburetors. The stated power output is 100 horsepower in this configuration. It’s equipped with a four-speed gearbox with overdrive. Both the gearbox and overdrive have been renovated. New brakes have been installed all around. The engine starts easily and sounds right. See the owner’s story for more information.

  • Interior condition

The interior is in very good condition. It features original instrumentation where everything works except for the tachometer. It also has the original steering wheel and original seats. The interior has been partially refurbished, with seats reupholstered in white faux leather. The rest of the interior is also reupholstered in faux leather. It has a new headliner, new textile floor mats, and is equipped with three-point seat belts for increased safety. The trunk mat is the original rubber mat with some wear.

  • Exterior condition

Painted in red Volvo color during the renovation, the paint is nice and maintains a good level. The fit of the body panels and doors is judged to be above average for a Jensen body. The rubber seals are new, and the chrome trims have been refurbished. The bumpers are originals from the 1960s and are in good condition. The 4.5-inch rims have new tires and the correct hubcaps. The chrome around the ventilation windows is worn on both doors, but these are original windows that were only fitted in Jensen cars (difficult to find). See picture.

  • General condition

Beautiful red P1800 that gives a very nice overall impression.

Owner's comment

I’ve owned and renovated a few Volvo P1800s before. Those built by Jensen in England are special and hold a special place in my heart. I bought this one down in Värmland, specifically in Kristinehamn. It was disassembled and renovation had begun when I acquired it. I had the B18 engine renovated. It’s not the original engine, but it’s an early model and it’s an original engine for the P1800, although not for this car. It produces 100 horsepower and likely hasn’t been used much as there was hardly any wear. We installed new bearings and piston rings. The cylinder bores and pistons were in such good condition that honing the bores was enough. The engine has an original D-cam, and we lightly milled the head while the engine was disassembled. The crankshaft didn’t need grinding either. The body was already in pretty good shape initially. The little rust that was present was addressed during the renovation.
