Description
In 2022, the car was acquired by SAAB Partners BV in the Netherlands. The company specializes in servicing, repairing, and restoring Saab vehicles. They search for complete and undamaged cars that can be reborn using new parts — but without major bodywork. In other words, only clean, straight, and rust-free bodies are selected. Following the Saab bankruptcy, the company acquired large stocks of new old stock parts and is now capable of virtually rebuilding and restoring relatively modern Saab models.
The auction car is an excellent example of this philosophy. Having been driven away from Switzerland’s salted roads, the body still retains its original paintwork. The most recent approved inspection was carried out on 2025-08-27.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
According to the owner — and primarily the company in the Netherlands — the engine, drivetrain, and chassis consist of new components that have covered just over 6,000 km. The car also delivers the solid mechanical feel of a brand-new vehicle. For a Saab enthusiast, it is easy to understand the attraction and fascination of experiencing that sensation.
-
Interior condition
The interior is in as-new condition, and according to the information provided, everything has been fitted using new parts from the company’s own inventory. The scent is important too — the unmistakable aroma of a new Saab.
-
Exterior condition
A clean and attractive exterior. The body is undamaged and retains its original paintwork. Original wheels are fitted with Continental summer tires at the rear and Minerva tires at the front. A set of new Mazzini winter tires mounted on original wheels is included.
-
General condition
An interesting car and concept — offering enthusiasts of the now-defunct marque a rare opportunity to acquire a newer, newly built/restored vehicle assembled with new parts. And after all, 2011 doesn’t really sound that old.

Facts about the model
The model was launched in the autumn of 2009 as a crossover version of the SportCombi, featuring 35 mm increased ground clearance and rugged protective body details. At the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, Saab unveiled the Griffin series — a final facelift for the entire 9-3 lineup ahead of the planned (but never realized) successor model. The Aero Griffin represented the highest equipment specification, including a sportier interior with graphite trim details and unique leather upholstery. Externally, the Griffin can be identified by its ice-block-inspired headlights borrowed from the Saab 9-5 and the distinctive Griffin badges mounted on the front fenders.
At the heart of the car was the then-new 2.0-liter direct-injection turbocharged engine producing 220 hp and 350 Nm of torque. Power is distributed through Saab’s advanced XWD (Cross Wheel Drive) system, developed by Haldex, capable of continuously varying torque distribution between the front and rear axles as well as between the rear wheels for optimal traction.
Due to Saab’s financial crisis and the subsequent bankruptcy in December 2011, only a limited number of 2012-model Saab 9-3X Aero Griffin cars were ever produced. In total, just 3,954 examples of the 9-3X were built throughout the entire production run, with the Griffin version accounting for an even smaller number.
