Facts about the model

Volvo 240 was an evolution of the Volvo 140 and was introduced in 1974. On the early editions of the Volvo 240, one can clearly see the family resemblance in the front end from the Volvo VESC concept car. The 240 (including the Volvo 260) enjoyed great sales success and is Volvo's most produced model series with around 2.8 million units. It was divided, just like its predecessor, into the 242 (two-door version), 244 (four-door version), and 245 (station wagon model). These designations were removed with the 1983 model year - instead, all versions officially became known as the 240. However, these designations are still commonly used to clarify the body style. The station wagon variant (almost always referred to as the Volvo 245) was popular among Swedish families for many years, offering ample space for strollers, camping equipment, etc. In the 1980 film "Vi hade i alla fall tur med vädret," the main characters travel in a typical Volvo 245.

Over the years, it underwent several changes, including multiple facelifts, with the most significant change occurring with the introduction of the 1981 model year featuring a completely new front end and interior. The Volvo 240 has attained cult status as the quintessential Volvo and as a family car. For a long time, the Volvo 240 was Sweden's most common car and was still a fairly common sight on the roads in 2011, especially when compared to other competing models from the same era.
