"This Rover undergone significant investment and improvements. The engine starts immediately and sounds good, and the car drives well but occasionally struggles to engage third gear, its a relatively easy fix for someone with the time and expertise. The gearbox is a 3-speed Borg Warner 35, which is easier to source as it was used in many other cars from that era, such as the Volvo 164."

Description

The car was purchased in 2022 from a former radio dealer from Vara, who is also a Rover enthusiast and previously owned both a Rover P5 and a Rover P6. As he aged, he found he could no longer use his P6 and therefore sold it. The car has been owned by several Rover enthusiasts and has been meticulously maintained and documented, with inspection reports available since 2000. It comes with a binder full of documentation, including the original workshop manual. The vehicle, a Series 1 in Arden Green with an aluminum grille, is in good condition despite an older repaint that shows some polishing damage and touch-ups. It also features re-chromed bumpers, P700-type headlights, chrome Rostyle wheels, and a tow hitch. The interior, with reupholstered leather door panels and floor mats, is intact and clean. The odometer reads about 98,000 km, but the actual mileage cannot be verified.

The owner, who worked as an engineer at Saab, was particularly attracted to this car because it is a Series 1 in very good condition with almost no rust. Having previously owned a P6, the owner found this car especially interesting. Despite its fine condition, the car has some flaws. The owner invested in fixing these but did not find the time and opportunity to deal with the gearbox when it stopped shifting to third gear, which is the direct reason why he chooses to sell the car to someone who has better possibilities to address it. A detailed report on the car's condition and history is available in an attached PDF. Click here to read more

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The gearbox will require repair or replacement, but aside from that, the car runs and drives well with good road handling and upgraded brakes. It is also equipped with power steering, enhancing the driving experience and making parking significantly easier. The car is exempt from future inspections and operates smoothly in first and second gear.

  • Interior condition:

The interior of the car is nicely maintained and features modern Jaguar X-type leather seats, with the front ones being electric, which integrate well into the vehicle's design. The carpets, door cards, and headliner are all in good condition. The dashboard is complete and includes an additional rev counter, and is equipped with an older Blaupunkt radio, enhancing its vintage appeal.

  • Exterior condition:

The bodywork of the car is solid with no notable rust issues, matching the condition of the underbody. It has an older repaint that has held up remarkably well, although upon close inspection, you might notice a few small touch-ups, scratches, paint blisters, and a small dent on the rear wing near the bumper. These imperfections are not immediately noticeable unless looked at closely. The chrome work is bright and well-maintained all around, complementing the nice wheels and good tires.

  • General condition:

Once the gearbox issue is addressed, either through repair or replacement, you'll have a well-maintained car that's ready to be enjoyed for many years to come.
