"The excellent driving experience remains in a legendary model that, for its time, offered both agile driving pleasure and the luxurious feel of a full-size car."

Description

The current owner's father purchased the car through his company in February 1989, with delivery handled by VAG dealer Emil Larsson AB in Skövde. The owner proudly drove his V8 for a few years before it was taken off the road and became part of his sons’ business. During the time it was decommissioned, the car changed ownership several times due to circumstances, but it has always remained within the same family. After more than 30 years of inactivity, the owner has now carefully brought the car back to life, with an extensive list of maintenance measures—and a considerable investment. The car has been stored in a heated garage throughout the years. The most recent approved inspection was carried out on December 3, 2024.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

A beautiful engine bay, hinting at what would later become a lasting trend in the automotive industry—plastic covers over the engines. The V8 still retains its period-appropriate, gently refined character and power, with a slight drop in revs after startup, especially when the well-functioning climate control is on—which, impressively, still blows cold air after more than 30 untouched years. The so-called UFO front brakes, a unique design at the time, feel solid, though with a slight hint of vibration.

  • Interior condition:

Soft and unworn leather interior, recently cleaned and conditioned by an automotive upholsterer. In addition, a sagging headliner has been replaced with a brand new and tidy one. All electrical equipment works well, including the seats and climate control, though the left power window hesitates. Something for the next owner to look into—likely a cleaning or inspection of the switch.

  • Exterior condition:

Original paint in well-reconditioned condition, with a few stone chips on the front that can be easily addressed. There are no badges indicating what an exciting creation this was back in 1989—perhaps a deliberate choice by the first owner, opting to keep a low profile by ordering a badge-free car from the factory. New hydraulic struts are needed for the hood, and the license plate light fixtures could use some cleaning.

  • General condition:

With just 66,000 kilometers on the odometer, a documented long period of storage, and a careful reawakening, this is now an uncommon youngtimer in intriguing original condition—ready for an enthusiast to further refine.

Facts about the model

The Audi V8 was the brand’s first true luxury sedan and a clear milestone in its upward journey. It was the first model from Audi to combine a V8 engine with permanent all-wheel drive (quattro) and an automatic transmission—something rare at the time, and the quattro traction became a landmark in automotive history. The Audi V8 was built on a stretched version of the C3 platform (the same as the Audi 100/200), but came equipped with more luxury and technology, allowing it to compete with the BMW 7 Series and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. It was also the first Audi model to be officially used in the DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft), marking a significant step in Audi’s motorsport legacy.
