We would claim that this is one of Sweden's finest T2 "Bay window" camper vans. It underwent a complete renovation from 2015 to 2017 by professionals and remains in impeccable condition. Since then, it has been used for trips around Europe multiple times, serving as a reliable companion during vacations.

"The engine and transmission are running smoothly. The body and paint are in excellent condition. OBS! After a testdrive this week we noticed a few oildrops under the engine. This is common on these engines and does normally not need to be repaired for a long time. The vehicle will be delivered with a fresh inspection from the Swedish Vehicle Inspection (Bilprovningen)."

Description

Volkswagen's second-generation (Type 2) bus is known as the T2, or Baywindow. This particular vehicle is Swedish-registered and has been driven in central Sweden before the current owner purchased it in 1975. The car was in good condition, but the engine was running unevenly, and there were some typical rust spots around the rear wheels, although no rust underneath. The owner and her husband decided to renovate the car in the fall of 2015. They enlisted the help of a professional workshop (Oijessons bilplåt) to replace parts of the rear fenders and edges. The car was then repainted in its original yellow color, but the upper section was painted in the correct shade of white, as these cars could also be ordered. All rubber seals and chrome details were replaced during the process. The brakes were overhauled, and the engine was replaced with a renovated, one-year newer engine with fuel injection and an accompanying fuel tank.

New upholstery and interior components were sewn and installed, including seat covers, door panels, and the headliner. Before this, the entire interior space was professionally repainted in the same white color as the upper part of the car. The renovation was completed just in time for the summer vacation in 2017. The car was driven to the vehicle inspection on June 22 and passed without any remarks. The first trip took the car through Germany, over the Alps, and down to Croatia without any issues.

The car is equipped with a convertible sofa inside that can be used for sleeping, curtains, and camping equipment stored in the bus's storage compartments, all of which are included with the purchase. A roof rack, camping table, awning, stone chip protection at the front, and Mad-Matz blackout curtains are also included, along with a folder containing all receipts for parts and renovations. The car has been meticulously maintained and invested in with costs exceeding 300,000 SEK. Among the equipment, a tow hitch is worth mentioning, which is useful for carrying bicycle racks and other accessories.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car started easily and runs smoothly. It has been driven 1300 miles on trouble-free holiday trips in recent years, both to Southern Europe and up to Northern Norway. Some spare parts and 3 cans of Classic Oil are included. Last serviced 500 miles ago. The car was professionally rustproofed at a Dinotrol workshop in the autumn of 2019, in cavities and underneath.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is in excellent condition and features a "rock and roll" sofa at the back that can be pulled out to form a full-width bed measuring 2 meters in length. With a simple maneuver, it can be folded back into a sofa, and underneath, there is a storage compartment for bedding and other items. The side cabinet, with drawers, is beautifully crafted in teak, although the top surface is not completely finished (not coated). The flooring is in excellent condition, as is the instrument panel and all interior details, which are in top-notch condition.

  • Exterior condition:

The body and paintwork are in excellent condition, as well as all the other details, which are in top-notch shape. The only remarks worth noting are that the sliding door can only be locked from the inside and rolls a bit sluggishly. There is a slight hint of a paint bubble underneath one of the rear lights, as seen in the picture.

  • General condition:

This wonderful car evokes emotions wherever it goes. The fact that it is in top-notch condition, both mechanically and aesthetically, and also practical and enjoyable to drive, only adds to its appeal. Facts about the model

The VW bus, known as Type 2 or T1, was introduced in the mid-1950s and became a global bestseller. In 1968, an updated version, the T2, was released, featuring larger windows, a sliding door, and improved safety features. Throughout the 1970s, the vehicle underwent continuous improvements, and production ceased in 1979. In 1980, the square-shaped bus, known as the T3, was introduced and built until 1992, marking the end of the rear-engine era.

Today, T1, T2, and T3 buses in excellent condition are highly sought after and sold on the international market. In the United States, the T2 bus became a symbol of youthful freedom in the 1970s and continues to represent the free-spirited lifestyle of California, the Hippie era, and surf culture. Few vehicles in the world have achieved the cult status of vintage VW buses.

This summer, the VW bus factory celebrates its 75th anniversary with a mega festival spanning three days from June 22nd to June 25th. The factory, located in Hannover, is expected to host over 10,000 buses from around the world. Purchase this bus and join the festivities for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
