"Turnkey AC Cobra in exhibition condition. The owner has driven 22,450 km since the car was completed in 2014. The only visible evidence of the mileage is some minor stone chips on the front, as well as wear on the rear tires. Rear tire replacement is really the only recommendation. Oh, one more recommendation. Drive carefully!"

Description

The words "Shelby Cobra" or "AC Cobra" instantly light up the eyes of most car enthusiasts. This car model has achieved a near-legendary status. Since the car is no longer in production but still stirs immense desire, the only option left is to build one's own. That's exactly what the owner of this meticulously crafted and well-appointed Cobra has done. They started with a newly manufactured frame and body. This replica build has involved assistance and advice from many knowledgeable technicians, ranging from local experts to those at NASA. More technical information can be found in the attached PDF file.

The car was registered and approved on June 2, 2014. Under the new regulations, the car underwent its last inspection on August 14, 2017, and is now exempt from further inspections (in Sweden). The car is being sold because the owner feels they have completed their journey with it and is now focusing on a new project. A jack, a tool set in both inches and millimeters, and an instruction manual are included with the car.

The test drive was a positive experience, and in terms of stability, it far surpasses the original from the 1960s. Overall, the vehicle is in excellent technical condition.

Carbon fiber instrument panel. The instruments are Smiths. The ignition lock is a fun and practical detail from HD. All switches are Lucas. The seats are formed in fiberglass and covered in leather.

The paint job is professionally done and maintains a showroom-quality finish. The color is Porsche Meteor Grey metallic, which adds to the overall aesthetic appeal. However, there are some minor stone chips on the front fenders and the front of the car. Please refer to the attached pictures for a closer look.

The car is equipped with 18" Split wheels, with a width of 8.5 inches in the front and 10 inches in the rear. The tires are sized 245/40-18 in the front and 295/35-18 in the rear, providing a balanced and sporty stance.

Owner's comment

The "recipe" for the car's technology is presented in the attached PDF document. The body is made of fiberglass. It has been widened by 30mm, and the front fenders are extended by 56mm. The rear fenders have carbon fiber stone chip protection. The floor is made of a combination of aluminum and fiberglass. The instrument panel is made of carbon fiber, with painted text indicating the functions of the switches. The ignition lock comes from Harley Davidson and is perfect for its purpose, as it eliminates the need to have the key hanging when unlocked. The engine has been dyno-tested and fully calibrated. The car comes with a brand new soft top that has only been test-fitted. Personally, I find that all AC Cobras look rather dismal with the soft top installed, but it is available for those who wish to use it. The wheels are split-style, manufactured by Image Wheels UK, and specially ordered by me with the screws that hold the wheel together mounted from the back. The interior is made of genuine leather, sourced from the same cowhide. The fuse panels are located behind the glove compartment, with the practical feature of being lockable. The car is equipped with an alarm system with an immobilizer function.

Facts about the model

The dream of the world's fastest sports car.

Former Le Mans winner Carroll Shelby decided in 1961 to fulfill his dream of building the world's fastest sports car. Shelby's solution was simple: take a big, powerful, and reliable American V8 engine and put it into a lightweight European chassis. He entered into a partnership with the British sports car manufacturer AC Cars, which provided the chassis and body. American Ford supplied the drivetrain. The engine was a 260 cubic inch V8 that Ford had developed for its midsize car, the Fairlane. AC Cars sent the chassis to Shelby's facility, located near the Riverside International Raceway in California, where final assembly took place. Shelby then tuned the engine to the customer's specifications. In 1963, the Cobra was updated with Ford's new 289 cubic inch V8, solidifying its status as a legendary car. It became a winning machine, dominating countless American championships and competitions in Europe. Among its victories were scalps from the likes of the Ferrari 250 GTO and muscular Corvettes. The Shelby Cobra was known to be a handful to tame, but above all, it was incredibly fast. As engine size and horsepower grew, with the introduction of big-block engines, including the famous 427, the Cobra became even more formidable. Official production of the AC Cobra ceased in 1968. By that time, US authorities had introduced a number of new safety and environmental regulations. Since the Cobra was an old design, it was deemed too costly to adapt the car, and production was discontinued.
