"The car is roadworthy and inspected until July 31, 2027, and is in very good usable condition. This Coupé is a Series 3 model, introduced in 1980, primarily recognized by its body-colored plastic bumpers and redesigned grille.

We are not aware of anything requiring immediate attention. It could be further improved by fitting new tires and addressing the intermittent cabin fan. According to information available, there are only two Peugeot 504 Coupés with V6 and fuel injection registered in Sweden."

Description

According to CARFAX, this car was imported from Germany and was registered in the Swedish vehicle registry in 2016. It has had two owners in Sweden, including the current one, who purchased it at auction in 2023. At the time of purchase, it had been professionally repainted on the exterior as well as on the inside of the bonnet and trunk lid, while the engine bay and luggage compartment were left untouched. Some paint blistering is visible in the engine bay. There is also minor surface rust on the trunk floor and inside the cabin floor. This is not alarming and can be addressed with relatively simple measures, such as sanding and repainting for a cleaner appearance.

Since acquiring the car in 2023, the current owner has invested time and money into further improvements. A major engine service has been carried out, including replacement of the K-Jetronic fuel injectors. Other upgrades include a new alternator, refurbishment of the power steering system, rust protection treatment of the underbody and structural members, and a complete overhaul of the braking system. Bushings and steering joints have been replaced, and new rear shock absorbers and clutch hydraulics have been installed. However, the cabin fan has not yet been addressed—it does not start and requires attention. The vent windows are also slightly stiff and would benefit from lubrication.

The car comes with its original jack, wheel tools, and spare wheel. Only one ignition key is included.

This is a remote auction. The photos and information regarding the vehicle and its technical condition have been provided by the owner. BWA has not inspected the car on site with the seller.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Equipped with the classic PRV V6 engine of 2.7 liters with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The stated output is 144 horsepower. The entire drivetrain has recently been serviced and filled with fresh oil. The engine has received new injectors, a new alternator with an integrated voltage regulator, and the power steering pump has been fully refurbished. The front suspension has been overhauled with new bushings and steering joints. The car starts easily and runs well during highway driving. The entire braking system has been renovated, including calipers and hoses.

  • Interior condition

A complete and well-preserved original interior. The dashboard is in nice condition with no cracks in the padding. All instruments are functioning. However, the cabin fan does not work. The parcel shelf has been replaced with a NOS (new old stock) original part. There is some minor surface rust under the carpets in the cabin and in the trunk.

  • Exterior condition

The paintwork is in very good condition. The car was repainted externally, as well as on the inside of the bonnet and trunk lid, in 2020. The wheels are TRX type, with tire dimensions 190/65-HR 390. The tires are older retreaded Michelin TRX tires that are beginning to harden, and some show minor cracking.

The underbody has been rustproofed, and the structural members have also been treated internally with liquid rust protection.

  • General condition

The car attracts a great deal of attention wherever it is shown and has even won a “People’s Choice” award at a classic car show.
In summary, the car is in very good usable condition. For Swedish conditions, the model is also very rare.

Facts about the model

The Peugeot 504 was produced between 1968 and 1983. It was launched as Peugeot’s flagship model and stood out ????? for its excellent comfort, partly thanks to its independent rear suspension design. The 504 Coupé is a rare car today, with only about 23,000 units produced between 1969 and 1983. However, it is relatively easy to maintain mechanically, as it is based on a proven and mass-produced model.
The estate version, called Break, was introduced in 1970, and a seven-seater version known as Familiale complemented the range. These two models, as well as the simplified 504L sedan introduced in 1973, featured a solid rear axle. A column-mounted gearshift was used until 1972 in the GL version (and remained until 1976 in the L model), after which it was replaced by a floor-mounted gear lever. An automatic transmission was also available. Engines included both petrol and diesel units ranging from 1.8 to 2.3 liters. In Europe, the model was replaced by the Peugeot 505 in 1983.
The Coupé and Cabriolet versions were available with a V6 engine from August 1974, making them among the first production cars in the world to feature an electronic ignition system (Schlumberger). These cars were equipped with a 2.7-liter PRV V6 engine, paired with either a 3-speed automatic or a 4-speed manual gearbox. The V6 Cabriolet was produced until 1977, after which it reverted to a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine until production ended in 1983.
After 1977, the Coupé continued as the V6TI, featuring the 2.7-liter PRV engine with Bosch K-Jetronic mechanical fuel injection, now producing 144 hp, and available only with a 5-speed manual gearbox. It was also offered as the TI version with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, initially with a 4-speed manual or automatic, and from August 1979 with a 5-speed manual or automatic.
