"A charming and solid example of a Jaguar in very good running condition, ready to be enjoyed just as it is."

Description

The current owner purchased the car in 2020. He felt the Jaguar appeared untouched and saw it as the perfect project. The fact that it was originally sold new in Sweden made it even more appealing. The exterior had been repainted, but the rest of the car was unrestored. He began the restoration fairly soon after purchase by disassembling the front and rear suspension. All parts were sandblasted, painted, or surface treated. The Jaguar received a new braking system, including all related components, and all bushings and joints were replaced. The engine bay, rear wheel wells, and rear underside were repainted. The carburetors have been serviced and tuned. The head gasket was replaced, and a new exhaust system was installed. The headliner and carpets are new, and the front seats have been reupholstered due to a puncture in the driver's seat cover, but the original upholstery is included separately. According to the owner, the car has never undergone rust repairs, which is a great sign, and no signs of welding were observed during the photo shoot.

The driver's door lock occasionally locks itself—possibly due to a faulty spring, according to the owner. Series 1 taillights are currently installed on the car, but the original lights are included separately. Other spare parts are also included—see photos. Two sets of keys and documentation come with the car.

Starts easily and sounds just like a Jaguar should. Runs well in both engine and drivetrain. No unusual noises were noted during the photo session. The clock and radio are not functioning.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is in good, usable condition. The front seats have been reupholstered, and both the headliner and carpets are new. Clean and tidy throughout. The luggage compartment is neat and well-kept. The engine and engine bay are in excellent condition.

  • Exterior condition:

An older repaint in good, usable condition with signs of regular use. Panel alignment is not perfect, but likely no worse than when the car left the factory. The chrome shows some wear. Underneath, the Jaguar appears to be in very good condition—see photos.

  • General condition:

An E-Type in very good driving condition—ready to be enjoyed and turn heads wherever it goes.

Facts about the model

The Jaguar E-Type made a sensational debut at the Geneva Motor Show in 1961, taking the automotive world by storm. It was truly a supercar and was met with universal acclaim. At its core, the E-Type featured a unibody monocoque structure and initially came equipped with Jaguar’s 3.8-liter XK engine, which was enlarged to 4.2 liters in 1967. The body was designed by Malcolm Sayer, an aerodynamicist and mathematician who came from aircraft manufacturer Bristol. The aviation influence is clear in the design, with body sides shaped like wings and a nose resembling the intake of a jet engine.

The Jaguar E-Type Series II was launched at the Earls Court Motor Show in October 1968. Like its predecessor, it was available in three body styles: Open Two-Seater (Roadster), Fixed Head Coupé, and 2+2 Coupé. The Roadster and the two-seater coupé retained the original Series I wheelbase, while the 2+2 had a slightly longer one.

Under the hood was the same trusty straight-six engine that dated back to the XK era—an iconic powerplant that remained beloved by enthusiasts. For the Series II, the front air intake was enlarged to improve cooling, and the A-pillars were slightly more raked, giving the car a smoother, more flowing silhouette. In addition to new bumpers, exposed headlights (without the earlier plexiglass covers), and repositioned rear lights under the bumper, much of the design remained true to the original.

Series II was largely a response to increasingly strict American safety regulations, which also led to a slightly detuned engine to comply with U.S. emissions standards. The Jaguar E-Type Series II was produced only between 1968 and 1970, before being replaced by the heavier Series III with a V12 engine—marking a shift in character from the earlier generations.
