"This camper is in great condition for its age and reportedly has never been driven in the winter. With the water-cooled 1.9L fuel-injected engine pushing from the back, along with an automatic transmission, it's a lively and easy-to-drive camper. The current owner has upgraded the rear space and some technology for even better "camping comfort" and usability for two people. All parts to restore it to its original condition are included. Otherwise, the car is in a used original condition and always ready for new adventures."

Description

This camper was registered in Sweden in May 1991 and has had 6 owners. As is often the case with this special type of camper, it has been cared for and appreciated over the years - both for the owners' interest in outdoor activities and for Volkswagen.

The current owner has owned it since May 2018 and has enjoyed it during the bright half of the year, while during the dark months, it has been stored in a heated garage. He partially rebuilt the interior, so it is now registered as a Motorhome (PB2). The original bench seat and all accessories are still available and included if the new owner wants to restore it to a passenger car for four passengers. It has a hardtop with inner and outer roofs made of gelcoat with 40 mm insulation. Interior height is about 2.05 meters in the front and about 1.95 meters in the back.

The awning is, according to the previous owner, from 2014.

Recent actions by the current owner include: Sunwind Gotland 100W solar panel installed in 2022, brake hoses replaced in 2021, electronic instrument panel replaced in 2021 with a cluster from Vanagon.or. New oil pressure gauge (low/high) in 2020. New starting battery in 2020. New tires in 2021. New coolant pump in 2020. Regulator and 90 Ah consumption battery in 2019.

Accessories/parts included in the purchase: Bike rack for two bikes. Original Rock'n Roll bench + cushions, rear cabin heater, fabrics, headrests, mats, and interior window shades. Stand for the driver's seat with the possibility to swivel the seat. New unused PortaPotti. Compressor cooler - Dometic 40 L, as well as useful tools and spare parts. Spare wheel. Leather steering wheel. Also included are various literature, receipts, and inspection protocols in a folder. The car is inspected and ready to drive.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Started easily and ran smoothly in the engine and drivetrain. The journey at a leisurely pace went without any issues. Steering, brakes, and other technical aspects were observed to be functioning well. Not inspected on a lift, but the underside looked good from what could be inspected. There were some hints of rust on non-vital parts. The engine compartment is in used condition. The air valve to the tank needs attention as it currently cannot be filled to full capacity.

  • Interior condition:

The interior in the front is in excellent original condition, including the seats, door panels, dashboard, and steering wheel in good shape. The carpet is worn near the gas pedal. Rubber floor mats are present. The cabin fan is not working due to an electrical issue. In the living area, there is a combination of original features and upgrades, all in good condition. All textiles in cushions, etc., are in fine shape with good padding.

  • Exterior condition:

Paintwork and plastic details appear to be in original condition with signs of wear from use. There are stone chips, scratches, some dents, and some touch-ups here and there, but functionality has been prioritized over appearance.

Glass and rubber details are in good condition. The wheels are in good shape with newer tires.

  • General condition:

An original Caravelle Coach with camping equipment, featuring some upgrades, is a cherished and sought-after outdoor companion. With over 30 years on the roads and in nature, it has become a classic. In its used but presentable condition, it holds enthusiast and collector status.

Facts about the model

After VW resumed production of passenger cars after World War II, it didn't take long for a utility vehicle, Type 2 or Transporter, to be added to the lineup. The needs were immense, and they sold everything they could produce. After the iconic T1 model was manufactured as model years 1950-1967, an update came with the T2, produced as a model year 1968-1979.

Its successor, the T3, arrived as a model year 1980 and continued until 1992.

Transporter Type 3 was produced in various versions with different specifications depending on the model year and market. Air-cooled, water-cooled, with carburetors, injection, front-wheel drive, and four-wheel drive (Syncro). Regardless of the configuration, it was a solid and durable companion for all types of transportation needs.

One niche of the VW Transporter that started relatively early was camping versions. Everything from curtains and air mattresses to custom-built interiors and various modifications to offer partially or fully standing height. Flower Power and Surf have also been associated with VW buses in all their forms and appearances. DIY builds and factory constructions have become synonymous with freedom and camping. Even in Sweden, camping versions have been built, such as the Monaco camping cars built by the company Campmobile in Åkerberga, mainly using parts from the renowned Westfalia in former West Germany.
