"The new color for 1969, middle blue, and the beautiful Minilite wheels make this car a "jewel". Not to mention the original condition."

Description

The car was originally purchased by an elderly lady from Hägersten through her son, who was listed as the owner, from Ernst Nilsson in November 1968. In September 2005, it was sold to a private individual with a mileage of 6,200 miles. The third owner, who has been an enthusiastic collector of cars, mopeds, bicycles, and curiosities primarily from the 60s and 70s, took over in May the following year. The Middle Blue (color code 99) Amazon has been part of their collection for 17 years and is largely in its original condition. All service and work carried out during this time are noted in a small black notebook, which comes with the car, as well as purchase documents, warranty booklet, service booklet, instruction manual, brochures, and other documentation. The car is fitted with Minilite wheels and Gislaved tires, as well as a two-inch exhaust system, eye and ear candy. Original steel wheels and tires are included, as is a mounted and functioning Blaupunkt Frankfurt radio.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Starts easily and runs smoothly. Everything appears to be functioning as it should. Undercarriage has not been checked on the lift but it looks very good.

  • Interior condition:

Both front seats, back seats, door panels and roof lining are in excellent original condition. The dashboard is also.

  • Exterior condition:

The low mileage, condition, and ownership history suggest that it is the original paint, which is in very good and glossy condition. The glass, chrome, and other equipment are also in great condition. The wheels and tires are in very good condition. The engine and trunk areas are spotless.

  • General condition:

This car's condition and history offer a nostalgic trip, with all the extras, from the Swedish welfare state era of the 60s and 70s. At the same time, it is a useful classic car that keeps up well with today's traffic rhythm. However, if you stop at a gas station, you won't have a quiet moment - this Amazon evokes emotions

Facts about the model

The Amazon, one of our most cherished classic cars, has been written about in countless articles. Designed by Jan Wilsgaard with Italian influences, it was Volvo's answer to the so-called pontoon body style that became a symbol of the 1950s. It was manufactured from 1956 to 1970, with model years from 1957 to 1970. For the 1959 model year, it became the world's first production car with a three-point seat belt in the front as standard.

The bulletproof B18 engine with 75 hp was introduced for the 1962 model year. There were several changes for the 1965 model year, including a new grille, new seats and interior, and the introduction of so-called "Hole" wheels and new hubcaps. The 1969 model year saw the introduction of an even larger engine, the B20A with 2.0 liters and 82 hp in the standard 121 model. There were also improved and safer brakes, as well as many upgrades from the 140 model, although some features were removed, such as the chrome trim and hood strip. There were no major changes or developmental steps in the final production years. New colors were added in 1969, such as the "Mellanblå" (medium blue) from the 140 series.

When the 1970s arrived, the Amazon was retired after 14 model years and 667,332 units produced. Available in two, four, or five doors and in standard, sport, and GT versions, it is a Swedish icon and a piece of automotive history.
