Description

This fine Rolls-Royce with a Barker body arrived in Sweden from England in 1991 and has been used as a parade car for serious events by the proprietor of a well-known tin forging company for many years. The car comes with meticulously gathered documentation dating back to the car's initial owner. The car is in excellent collector condition. That is, it is in excellent original condition with only an older repaint that is still very good. The interior and technical condition are entirely original, seldom used, and meticulously kept. The car starts readily and drives well. It's simple to drive and rides smoothly and comfortably. GAF14 is the chassis number, and the body is from Barker.

The car's history: Major Thomas Fuge, a member of the then-London-society, purchased the car brand new. Mr Brown, the chauffeur, drove and maintained it. For the first five years, the car was utilised to transport the family's relatives and celebrities, including Mrs. Elinor Roosevelt and many notable family friends in the music industry. Fuge and Mr Brown travel to Ireland by car in 1939 to visit family. Because of the war, they have chosen to remain in Ireland. Later that year, in 1939, the driver's wife and daughter joined. They all stayed in Ireland until the war ended in 1945 before driving back to London. Mr Brown remains the Fuge couple's chauffeur once they arrive. The family owned the car until Mrs. Fuge dies in 1952. Mr Brown then purchases the car and begins a car rental business. During this time, the car is rented with a driver to a film company, among other things, for driving movie stars. Queen Elisabeth was later driven in the car as well. Her sister rode in the car on her first drive for the English court, however, in connection with her coronation in 1953. The narrative of the car has been given in part by the driver's daughter, but it has also been told by others. These documents are included in the car folders. The Russian Bolshoi Theater visits England in 1956, and some of the famous dancers rode in the car.
Mr Brown retires in the mid-1960s, and the car, which is still in excellent shape, is sold to an American "Commander Captain" and shipped to the United States. According to sources, it was kept in a superb car collection in the United States until 1990, when it was auctioned off to a Swedish lawyer at a Washington auction.
The car was serviced and used sparingly in Sweden, according to the paperwork. Older servicing documentation dating back to 1938 is provided, as well as instructions on how to drive the car at the Queen's coronation. The car may be viewed at Åkessons bilhall in Götene.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Starts easily and runs well in engine, gearbox and brakes. Surprisingly easy to drive. Engine completely original and service history available.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is very nice. We assume that the seats have been reupholstered and the carpets have been replaced, although this could well be the original upholstery.

  • Exterior condition:

An older repaint (before 1990) that is still in good condition. Only small scratches and stone chips have been found. The car has never been rusted or repaired, and it has always been stored indoors in a dry environment.

  • General condition:

Without being entirely renovated to new condition, this is one of the nicest Rolls we've seen. The car lacks miles/kilometer meters, but based on the condition and accessible documents, we estimate that it has gone 200,000 km.
