"The car runs well and makes a positive overall impression, although it would benefit from a few minor adjustments as it had been stored for many years until recently."

Description

The current owner’s family has owned the car since 2004, having purchased it in its present attractive condition. Routine maintenance has been carried out regularly, and the car has been driven only during the summer months.

Due to illness, the car was taken off the road and stored approximately three years ago, and it has only recently been recommissioned and started up again.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The car runs well but would benefit from a carburettor overhaul, as it was difficult to start when warm. The ignition lock cylinder is loose and should be repaired. An inspection of the wiring beneath the dashboard would also be advisable, although all functions appeared to be working correctly from what I could see.

  • Interior condition

The interior is complete and in good overall condition, showing only normal signs of wear. A professional detailing would help freshen its appearance.

  • Exterior condition

An older repaint in very good condition. The only noted imperfections are a small touch-up on the right rear wing and a minor scratch beside the front edge of the bonnet. The chrome is in excellent condition, and the car sits on new chrome wire wheels fitted with good tyres. The original wire wheels, with worn chrome, are included.

The soft top and cockpit tonneau cover are both complete and in good condition.

  • General condition

An eye-catching MGA that attracts well-deserved attention. It runs very well and, after some minor adjustments and routine checks, is ready to be fully enjoyed on the road.

Facts about the model

The MG MGA was introduced in 1955 as the successor to the earlier T-Series and quickly became one of the most stylish and desirable sports cars of the 1950s. The 1957 model belongs to the first generation (produced from 1955 to 1959) and is characterised by its low-slung body and flowing lines—a clear departure from the more upright and angular MG models that came before it.

In standard form, it was powered by a 1,489 cc inline four-cylinder engine producing 72 horsepower. Top speed was approximately 155 km/h, an impressive figure for a small open sports car of the era. The MGA featured a more modern chassis with independent front suspension and significantly improved handling compared with its predecessors.

The model was exported in large numbers, particularly to the United States, where it played a key role in establishing British roadsters as aspirational sports cars for enthusiasts. The MGA was offered both as an open two-seat roadster and as a coupé, each embodying classic British styling and a strong individual character.

Today, the MGA is a highly regarded classic, admired for its timeless design, mechanical simplicity, and engaging driving experience. It remains a familiar sight at classic car gatherings and in collections around the world.
