"A true flashback to the 1970s for those of us who grew up during that era. This was a very popular model at the time. This particular car has remained largely free from rust—something rare for this model. Fun and lively to drive."

Description

The known history of this car begins with an inspection carried out in 2012, at which point the odometer read 65,000 km. The current owner purchased the car in March 2020 and had it inspected in April the same year, showing 67,830 km. The car is in surprisingly good condition, especially the interior. The current owner has wisely preserved its original condition, only performing operational improvements.

While the mileage appears to be accurate, this cannot be fully guaranteed.

The car comes with two sets of keys, the original spare wheel and jack, as well as some old inspection records.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Mechanically, the car feels very sound. The engine runs quietly and smoothly, and the gears shift without any issues. The brakes engage evenly and effectively, and the car feels solid on the road. New tires were fitted when the current owner purchased the vehicle. The most recent inspection was carried out in June 2024.

  • Interior condition:

Overall, the car is in very good condition. As a bit of trivia, the protective plastic on the door panels is still in place. The seats, trim panels, and headliner are all intact and in great shape. The floor mats are in good condition, except for a hole in the driver's side mat. All instruments are functioning properly. The door seals are somewhat brittle and dry.

  • Exterior condition:

Glossy original paintwork, though there are some areas with clear coat peeling. Touch-ups have been made to the wheel arches, which have held up well over the years. There are a few scratches and a couple of small dents on the car. Good tires mounted on newly refurbished original wheels.

  • General condition:

The overall impression is, in many ways, fascinating—most Civics from this era have long since rusted away. A fun car to own and be seen in at all the summer meets and classic car gatherings.

Facts about the model

The 1979 Honda Civic marks an important chapter in automotive history, representing the evolution of a model that began in 1972. With each new generation, Honda continued to refine and adapt the Civic to meet the changing needs of the market.

The 1979 Civic was known for its compact size, fuel efficiency, and reliability. It offered a range of engine options, including a 1.3-liter and a 1.5-liter, making it both powerful and economical. Its design featured a more angular, period-correct look, with a surprisingly spacious interior and good cargo capacity—qualities that made it popular with both families and younger drivers.

During this era, demand for small and fuel-efficient cars surged, particularly in the wake of the 1970s oil crisis. The Civic quickly became a market favorite by combining practical features with innovative technology, such as a front-wheel-drive layout that enhanced handling and stability.

The 1979 Civic played a key role in establishing Honda as a leading manufacturer of reliable and efficient vehicles. Today, it stands as an icon in the automotive world, renowned for its durability and performance. It’s now a sought-after classic among enthusiasts and collectors who appreciate its historical significance and timeless design.
