"A cool vehicle with an interesting Swedish car history."

Description

Current owner’s father purchased the Setherakaross and a set of car windows from designer Sven Harry Åkesson in Landskrona in 1989. The blueprint drawings from Sven Harry were meticulously followed during the construction of the Setheran. These drawings accompany the car. In connection with this, a donor car, a VW 1600 Type 3, was also acquired. The VW chassis was cleaned and blasted. After that, the technical parts were built up with many new components. However, the engine and gearbox remained untouched except for the change to Weber carburetors instead of the twin carburetors. The original twin carburetors are included with the car separately. Construction of the Setheran paused on and off, but by spring 2000, the car was completed. It was registered as a rebuilt vehicle and has been exempt from tax and inspection since 2021. The Setheran has been driven sparingly over the years and has also been unused for a number of them. It has mainly been used to travel to and from car meetings since the current owner took over ownership from his father. An exhaust system (snake pipe) comes with the car separately, see picture. Some analog photos from the construction period of the Setheran are also included.

Facts about the model

Svenharry Åkesson, a renowned car builder from Skåne, designed a sports car based on a Volkswagen 1600 chassis, completed in 1983. Initially intended for his son’s eighteenth birthday, the car gained significant interest after being showcased at a kit car exhibition in Uppsala. This led Svenharry to establish the company Plastinova to further develop and manufacture bodies and adapted chassis. Series production resulted in 330 bodies and 20 chassis. The body could be mounted on a Volkswagen chassis or a steel structure. The steel chassis was eventually adapted to accommodate a mid-engine configuration. There was also an option to fit a smaller and lighter V8 engine. The exact number of completed cars is unknown.

Another well-known car designer, Christian von Koenigsegg, reportedly discovered the potential of Svenharry’s well-engineered mid-engine chassis in the mid-1990s. They allegedly used such a chassis for their first prototype.
