"One of the most beautiful Jaguars ever built, in my opinion. While bringing this car back to a high standard will undoubtedly require many hours of dedicated work, it represents a fundamentally sound restoration candidate and an excellent starting point for the right enthusiast."

Description

From what we have been able to trace, this car was originally sold new in January 1962. It has since passed through the hands of several owners in different parts of Sweden. The current owner acquired the car relatively recently from an elderly gentleman whose intention had been to begin the restoration, but declining health prevented him from doing so.

The current owner also planned to undertake the project but, with several other British restoration projects already demanding attention, has concluded that there simply is not enough time available and is therefore offering the car to someone better placed to see it through.

The engine starts readily and, once warmed up, settles into a reasonably smooth idle. The extent of any previous work carried out on the drivetrain is unknown, and the relatively low odometer reading cannot be verified. Following a short test drive, the mechanicals felt fundamentally sound, although prospective buyers should expect a degree of refurbishment throughout the vehicle's technical systems.

As the photographs clearly show, substantial work will be required to the bodywork, floorpan, and structural areas. However, a considerable number of parts are already included with the car, including replacement sill sections and various additional components, providing a useful head start for the restoration.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

As previously noted, the car is drivable in its current condition. That said, we would be somewhat surprised if it were to pass a roadworthiness inspection without further work. Based on our assessment, the gauges and instruments appear to be functioning as intended. A complete overhaul of the braking system should be considered a likely necessity before the car is returned to regular use.

  • Interior condition

As the photographs clearly show, there are holes in the front floor sections on both sides, although the rear floor area appears to be in considerably better condition. The dashboard presents well, while the seats display an honest and attractive patina. The door panels are either in poor condition or missing altogether.

The front seats appear to have been sourced from another Jaguar model, but the original seats are included with the car, as shown in the photographs. A new carpet set is also included, providing a useful foundation for the interior restoration.

  • Exterior condition

A considerable amount of rust is present across large areas of the car. The chrome is in driver-quality condition. The exterior trim is generally poor throughout and should be replaced.

  • General condition

A wonderful Jaguar model that deserves a new lease on life. A car that, in all likelihood, will continue to appreciate in value over time. The scope of the restoration is entirely up to the next owner—whether guided by available time, enthusiasm, or budget.

Facts about the model

The Jaguar Mk2, produced between 1959 and 1967, is one of the marque’s most iconic models. It combined elegant British styling with strong performance, thanks to a range of six-cylinder engines of up to 3.8 litres in displacement. The car became renowned for its brisk acceleration, excellent road manners, and luxurious interior featuring leather upholstery and fine wood trim. The Mk2 also enjoyed considerable success in motorsport, appeared frequently in film and television, and today holds a firmly established position as a highly sought-after classic among collectors and enthusiasts alike.
