"An Ami 8 Fourgonnette is a rare sight on our roads, and as far as we know, this is the only one in Sweden. It arrived here from France at an early stage. In recent years, a considerable amount of work has been carried out on the vehicle, although there are still a number of details that would benefit from further attention."

Description

This vehicle was first registered for road use in Sweden on 15 December 1977. Over the years, it has been owned by a succession of enthusiastic Citroën devotees. The current owner, a well-known figure within the marque’s community and an experienced mechanic, acquired the car from his son in October of last year.

A few years ago, the vehicle underwent rust repairs and was repainted in its original colour. More recently, the brakes and exhaust system have been overhauled, and a new set of tyres has been fitted.

Included with the car is a selection of original literature, while the cargo compartment is filled with a variety of useful spare parts and accessories. Some items are new, but most are used, including original seats and bumpers.

The vehicle has passed inspection but is currently registered as off the road.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The engine starts easily, although it was somewhat reluctant to pull cleanly at low revs and would benefit from further attention. The current owner, who is a mechanic, intends to investigate the issue, and this description may therefore be updated.

During a test drive on smaller forest roads, the vehicle performed well, and its close relationship to the Citroën 2CV was immediately apparent. The underside has been inspected, and the important structural and mechanical areas appeared to be in good condition.

  • Interior condition

The interior remains in original specification and shows the expected wear of regular use. The front seats have been replaced, although the original seats are included with the vehicle. The bench seat currently fitted is somewhat soft and spongy in the cushion.

The steering wheel, controls, dashboard, and instruments all display honest driver-quality wear but appear to function as intended.

  • Exterior condition

Recently repainted in its original colour, the finish presents well overall. The remaining exterior details show normal wear consistent with the vehicle’s age and mileage. The glass, brightwork, trim, and lighting components are in similar condition.

The front bumper is dented but has been retained because it still carries its original French registration plate. A better used replacement bumper is included with the vehicle. The bright trim surrounding the roof is not original and has been sourced from an Ami Break.

The wheels are in good condition and fitted with newer tyres. The engine bay presents in honest driver-quality condition, appropriate for the vehicle’s age and mileage.

  • General condition

It may show some signs of wear, but it has recently benefited from a number of improvements. Whether you choose to enjoy it exactly as it is or continue refining it, you will own a truly unique vehicle by Scandinavian standards.

A practical little charmer that is guaranteed to stand out at classic car gatherings and rallies, while also offering excellent potential as a promotional vehicle or eye-catching business display. A delightful classic with genuine enthusiast appeal.

Facts about the model

Citroën’s Ami range was produced between 1961 and 1979. Based on the legendary 2CV, it was designed to offer a little more space and refinement for an increasingly demanding market. While affordable and simple vehicles remained highly desirable during this period, customers were constantly seeking greater comfort and practicality. The Ami was Citroën’s answer to those expectations.

In France, the model proved to be a major success and was, at times, the country’s best-selling car. French buyers of the era generally favoured domestic manufacturers, particularly those offering the distinctive ingenuity and character for which French automobiles were renowned.

The first version, the Ami 6, became an icon of its time thanks to its combination of simple, practical engineering and highly distinctive styling. The range included Berlina saloons, Break estates, and various commercial derivatives. The Berlina, with its unmistakable reverse-raked rear window—reminiscent of the Ford Anglia—was especially notable and remains one of the most recognisable automotive designs of the era.
