"A Corvette from an era when beauty and performance were the perfect match."

Description

This Corvette was imported from the United States in 2004. While no information is available regarding its history prior to arriving in Sweden, it appears to have been well cared for throughout its life. Since its import, the car has had three owners, with the two most recent custodians each keeping it for nine and eleven years respectively. The second owner belonged to a well-known family within the Swedish automotive enthusiast community.

The car runs well and presents nicely from a few meters away, making it an enjoyable driver in its current condition. For those seeking to take it to the next level, there is clear potential to enhance its overall appearance through paintwork and other cosmetic improvements.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The car performs well and feels strong and responsive during our test drive. The engine has a minor oil leak at the rear, beneath the distributor.

  • Interior condition

The black interior and dashboard are in driver-quality condition. According to the seller, the dashboard design was unique to the 1960 model year. The loose driver’s side carpet has certainly seen better days, although the floor underneath appears to be in good condition. The center console housing the clock would benefit from being realigned, and some of the chrome trim shows light pitting. The functionality of the clock has not been verified.

  • Exterior condition

paint bubbles and a few minor fiberglass blemishes. There is some chrome peeling on the left rear bumper. Parts of the chrome trim show light pitting, while other pieces remain in good condition – please refer to the photos for details.

The convertible top is in good overall condition. It folds down easily, although raising it again can be somewhat fiddly. The left exterior mirror is difficult to adjust.

  • General condition

This Corvette offers a solid foundation and performs well on the road, but it does show a number of cosmetic imperfections in both the paintwork and chrome trim. The interior could be significantly improved with some straightforward attention, including securing a few loose panels and repairing a split seam on the driver’s seat.

Overall, this is a car that would benefit from cosmetic refurbishment, yet it feels mechanically sound and healthy. Please note that the vehicle has not been inspected on a lift.

An ideal opportunity for a hands-on enthusiast looking to take the car to the next level, or for someone considering a professional repaint and restoration program with the associated work that entails.

One set of keys is included.

Facts about the model

Introduced in 1956, the Corvette received a significantly revised body design that gave the car a fresh and more refined appearance. In 1957, Chevrolet introduced Rochester fuel injection as an optional extra. With engine displacement increased to 283 cubic inches (4.6 litres), the fuel-injected V8 produced 283 horsepower, making it one of the first production engines in the world to achieve the remarkable benchmark of one horsepower per cubic inch.

For 1958, the Corvette underwent another styling update, featuring an abundance of chrome trim. Dual headlights were introduced, along with the distinctive louvered “washboard” hood design. The extensive use of chrome also made the 1958 model the heaviest of all first-generation Corvettes.

The body remained largely unchanged until 1961, when the rear end was completely redesigned, offering a preview of the styling direction for the next generation Corvette. The new design introduced the iconic “boat-tail” rear treatment and the now-classic four round taillights, a Corvette hallmark that has remained a defining feature ever since.

The 1962 model year marked the final chapter of the legendary first-generation Corvette, the C1.
