Volvo TP21 Sugga 3.7 — 1957

A genuine ex-military workhorse that retains valid road registration yet awaits a full restoration. After years of dormancy, it’s been stored outdoors for the past eight months. With just 215 known survivors in Sweden, this is a remarkably rare opportunity.

Description

Originally converted for civilian use and registered in 1977, this Volvo Sugga hasn’t seen a road inspection since 1990 and has passed through several hands over the years. The current owner acquired it in 2009 in non-running condition and stored it at a sawmill, where it remained until being moved outdoors eight months ago.

Classified as a car on its registration, it’s powered by a Volvo B36 V8 engine that is presently seized. You’ll need to arrange transport and winch it onto a trailer from its current location.

Historically, we’ve sold fully running and nicely restored Suggas for over 300,000 SEK, so there’s ample opportunity for renovation and profit—especially if you’re mechanically inclined. Alternatively, it makes an excellent donor vehicle or the starting point for a completely new build.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Currently a non-runner: untested and not drivable. It was towed out of storage eight months ago and has remained parked outside since then. The vehicle retains valid road registration but must be collected by transport or trailer. Fitted with older tires that still hold air.

  • Interior condition:

Original front and rear seats are complete and in fair condition. The dashboard is also original, with all gauges and switches still in place. The interior includes vintage military signs and plates. The headliner is complete but shows signs of wear, and the rear side window is broken and will need to be replaced.

  • Exterior condition:

Finished in its original military-green, the paint and bodywork show wear with mostly surface rust and a few knocks and dents. The underbody displays similar surface corrosion. These vehicles were engineered like tanks to withstand the harshest climates.

  • General condition:

Well-maintained examples are increasingly rare these days, making this an ideal project car for someone with the expertise and time to restore it to its former glory.
