Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
The engine starts easily and runs well, although it is a little hesitant until it reaches operating temperature. During a short test drive in a suburban area, the steering, clutch, gearbox, and brakes were all found to function well. However, a general service and some fine-tuning would be beneficial.
The vehicle was not inspected on a lift, but the visible vital components appeared to be in good condition. -
Interior condition
The interior is in good original condition, with well-preserved seats that have been protected by seat covers for much of their life. The covers were carefully lifted in a few places to inspect the upholstery underneath, which appeared to be in very good condition.
The door panels, interior trim, and rubber floor mats are all in good condition, as is the headliner. The steering wheel, controls, gauges, and dashboard are similarly well preserved, showing only normal signs of use and age. The radio is currently not functioning. -
Exterior condition
The paintwork retains a good shine and presents well, although parts of the car appear to have been repainted at some point. Overall, it is in good condition considering its age and mileage.
The chrome trim, glass, mouldings, emblems, and lighting components are all in good condition, showing only normal signs of use and age. One mud flap is missing, and the rubber trim on the rear wings shows some wear.
The wheels and tyres are in serviceable condition. The engine bay and luggage compartment are clean and well-kept, displaying normal signs of use. -
General condition
A well-preserved and regularly enjoyed example that would have looked perfectly at home in the Swedish welfare-state suburb of Traneberg. During the inspection and test drive, the car was met with smiles and friendly waves from passers-by.
The Volvo PV is a true classic and an enthusiast’s car that never fails to evoke memories and attract attention. This particular example is no exception. Presented in tidy and charming driver-quality condition, its understated graphite grey exterior paired with a red interior is a colour combination that feels absolutely spot on.

Facts about the model
The updated car was intended to complement the new Amazon. Featuring a larger, one-piece, gently curved windscreen and a larger rear window, it adopted a more modern appearance. New, larger tail lights were also introduced. Inside, the car received a horizontal instrument layout and a padded upper dashboard. The rear seat was made more spacious and was now marketed as a three-seater.
Initially, the model was offered in Standard, Special I, Special II, and Sport versions. The Sport variant came equipped with three-point seat belts as standard.
For the 1962 model year, designated PV 544C, the car received the B18A engine, a revised front suspension, and improved steering. It also gained a 12-volt electrical system, while seat belts and a windscreen washer became standard equipment across the range.
In August 1963, the PV 544E was introduced. Although the updates were relatively minor, a new headliner was fitted. A total of 24,200 examples of the PV 544E were produced.
Production of the PV 544 came to an end on 20 October 1965. By then, a total of 444,000 cars had been built, securing the model’s place as one of the most iconic vehicles in Swedish automotive history.
