Description
The current owner purchased the car last summer as a nostalgic tribute to his youthful passion for automobiles. Still a committed enthusiast, he prefers buying and driving cars to working on them himself. His purchases are often guided by both heart and mind, although it is usually passion and spontaneity that have the final say. As a result, interesting vehicles sometimes find their way into the garage even when space or time is limited.
This is an early left-hand-drive example, chassis number 50598, and is likely among the first cars of its type sold in Sweden. The most recent—and final—approved roadworthiness inspection was carried out on August 31, 2018, the same year Sweden introduced exemption from periodic inspections for qualifying historic vehicles.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
The engine was rebuilt approximately 20 years ago, and at the same time the chassis was refurbished with new springs and shock absorbers. Since then, the car has covered less than 10,000 kilometres, helping to preserve its excellent mechanical condition.
The car starts easily, and the engine and gearbox work together smoothly and harmoniously. On the road, it feels well sorted and enjoyable to drive, offering the refined character and driving experience expected of a classic Jaguar -
Interior condition
Beautiful blue leather upholstery from a later Series 3, presented in fine, supple, and well-preserved condition. A 1969 Series 1 would not originally have been equipped with headrests. The wood veneer trim is undamaged, the controls are complete and intact, and the cabin offers an overall sense of quality and refinement.
The headliner, however, has sagged and has been secured with pins—albeit arranged in a rather neat pattern. Replacing the headliner is a well-documented process, and a ready-made replacement can be ordered from the UK for approximately SEK 3,000–4,000.
Inertia-reel seat belts were fitted front and rear by a previous owner; originally, the car was equipped with fixed seat belts. -
Exterior condition
An older repaint that still presents well, complemented by good-quality chrome trim throughout. The underbody shows a number of repaired rust areas which are considered acceptable from an inspection and roadworthiness perspective.
A previous owner carried out various corrective and cosmetic improvements, including replacing the reversing lights to ensure that all details accurately matched the car’s model year specification. The result is a well-sorted and authentic-looking example that has clearly benefited from thoughtful ownership. -
General condition
Good-looking and mechanically reliable, presented in a pleasant and user-friendly condition.

Facts about the model
Two engine options were initially available: a 2.8-litre and a 4.2-litre six-cylinder, the latter proving to be the more popular choice. The following year, a more luxurious version was introduced under the Daimler Sovereign name. Cars fitted with a vinyl roof also carried the additional Vanden Plas designation.
In 1972, Jaguar launched the twelve-cylinder XJ12, along with a long-wheelbase L version. The following year, these options were also made available in the Daimler range. The smaller 2.8-litre engine was discontinued in 1973 and was eventually replaced by a 3.4-litre unit a few years later.
