Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Starts easily with a fresh battery, and the Chrysler engine delivers that familiar V8 feel together with the automatic transmission. The brakes and chassis offer a typically solid feel and function as they should.

  • Interior condition

Original interior in worn but honest used condition. A thorough detailing and leather cleaning would do it good. The air conditioning has a new compressor, though it has not been checked or test run.

  • Exterior condition

Originally, the car was finished in a shade of Cherry Red with a beige soft top. The current owner was not particularly fond of that combination and chose to repaint it in a light brown metallic with a black soft top instead. The roof folds and closes easily, and the original soft-top cover still matches the new paint surprisingly well. There is minor damage near the passenger door following an attempted theft, along with a few small paint bubbles at the rear of the left rear fender.

  • General condition

Exclusive, distinctive, and still user-friendly. With a proper interior detailing, the overall impression would be elevated significantly.

Facts about the model

The introduction of the Jensen Interceptor Convertible in 1974 was a bold and deliberately glamorous move by the manufacturer, initiated by the company’s then-president Kjell Qvale. The model was positioned as a luxurious yet sportier alternative to the astronomically expensive Rolls-Royce Corniche. The 1975 model year represented the peak of this vision, where the Italian-designed body — originally penned by Carrozzeria Touring — had been transformed into an elegant four-seat convertible without losing its grand touring lines. Beneath the long bonnet sat a massive 7.2-liter (440 cu in) Chrysler V8 engine. Combined with a three-speed Torqueflite automatic transmission, its generous torque still gave the relatively heavy car impressive acceleration. Inside, the car offered the expected level of luxury, including thick leather upholstery, walnut wood trim, air conditioning, and a fully automatic power-operated soft top. Unfortunately, the launch coincided with the aftermath of the 1973 oil crisis, making a fuel-hungry luxury car difficult to sell in the crucial American market. Despite financial troubles and Jensen Motors’ bankruptcy in 1975, the model still achieved a certain status among celebrities and the jet set of the era. In total, only 456 examples of the convertible model were produced during its short lifespan between 1974 and 1976, making the Jensen Interceptor Convertible one of the rarer British-American hybrid classics of modern times.
