"The Honda is delivered without fairings. Runs well and produces a truly evocative sound."

Description

This Honda CBX 787 is far more than just a modified motorcycle — it is a passionate project where Honda engineering from two eras comes together. Here, the 1981 Pro-Link chassis meets the legendary 1047 cc six-cylinder CBX engine from 1978 in a machine created for both power and emotion.

Beneath the classic exterior lies an extensive restoration and rebuild. The engine has been given new life through a major overhaul in which, among other things, the six carburetors were rebuilt, re-jetted, and synchronized to perform as intended. The valves have been adjusted and the cam chain tensioner replaced, allowing the inline-six to deliver the smooth and powerful character that made the CBX engine legendary.

The cylinder head has been ported for improved airflow, the generator has been refurbished, and the ignition system updated with new spark plugs and cables. Fresh oils have been added, and the braking system has been rebuilt to cope with the power the engine delivers. The front forks have received new seals, providing stability and precision, while a new 6-into-1 exhaust system lets the iconic six-cylinder sing with a sound few motorcycles in the world can match.

With new tires and carefully reviewed details throughout, the result is impressive — a motorcycle built with respect for the original, yet with the ambition of giving it new life on the open road, where every twist of the throttle is a reminder of why Honda’s six-cylinder masterpiece became a legend.

Facts about the model

When the Honda CBX was launched, it was not just another motorcycle — it was a statement. In the February 1978 issue of Cycle Magazine, editor-in-chief Cook Neilson summed it up after riding a pre-production example at Orange County Raceway, Willow Springs, and on Webco’s dynamometer:

“The goal — to build the fastest production motorcycle in the world — has been achieved.”

Motorcycle journalist L. J. K. Setright later compared the CBX to the CB900F and observed:

“The CBX feels better and performs better, and the difference is greater than the price difference — so the more expensive bike is actually the better buy. The CBX engine is as responsive as a racing engine, the finest motorcycle engine ever to reach the street.”

Even today, the CBX’s screaming six-cylinder soundtrack and razor-sharp throttle response are legendary. It was not merely fast — it was Honda’s way of proving its engineering superiority.
